OK, I can't seem to find an answer where ever I look and I know I am probably just overlooking it. But with a balance shafts eliminated how do you lock up the oil pump sprocket to torque the nut down on it?

Ok I should have put a little more light on it, the engine is still in the car. The seal behind the castle nut was leaking so I broke the nut loose by holding the sprocket tight using the timing belt since we were replacing it. So vise is out.

Yep, vice is how I torqued the driven gear bolt before assembling the pump.
I think I put a wrench on the flats of the stub shaft to hold the pump while torquing the sprocket to the driven gear with the front cover installed, The oil pan was dropped so I could reach into the block and hold it.

Damn you Steve. Always hijacking my threads. Gimme some Wiseman status!

Well of course not one of the 6 parts stores have a pan gasket for me so I didn't want to drop the pan without one since this car has to go for a 200 mile road trip tomorrow, so I did a no no and torqued it using the NEW timing belt for leverage (i.e. the same way I got it off). Wish me luck.

They probably don't list one because there isn't one. These cars didn't come with a gasket. Use a nice bead of silicon and that will seal it up nice.

DSM's dont have an oil pan gasket? I might have to disagree with you there, I could order one that would be here on Tuesday.

Mike is correct.

The Factory used RTV to seal the oil pan and that is what is called out in the FSM for replacing the oil pan. Permatex Ultra Gray is the equiv of the factory RTV for this.

I know that there are aftermarket oil pan gaskets but if there is a factory part for 6 bolts I'd like to know the part number too.

Just buy a can of "The Right Stuff" gasket maker. Ya its costs like $18 a can but it is by far the best gasket maker you can buy. The stuff is rather disgusting to say the least but it sure as well WONT leak. Great stuff.
