I'm going to be putting in a restored crank in my car because I spun a rod bearing. I don't need a forged crank I'm a college student on a budget and I don't get to be super cool just yet. What I do want to know is if I hook up an oil pressure gauge and get positive results will that save me from having to change the oil pump? I believe the bearing went out in the first place because of overreving and that cylinder happened to be running lean. The guy I bought the car from put a 380cc injector in the 4th cylinder. That's just a theory though, what are your guy's thoughts on this? Advice?

Like I said I'm on a budget but if it is absolutely crucial that I replace it I will. If I can save myself the troubles I will.

I would pull the block and strip it all down and get all the loose debis floating around inside the block and heads oil passages to make sure its as clean as can be before putting a new crank in. Buying a car like that saying that had a 380 cc injector in only one cylinder your best thing is to pull the motor so you know what you have once it goes back in.

^I agree as well...

Or disassemble the oil pump, check the clearences and check for scratches in the pump, if it's that bad you'll need one, or be looking for a crankshaft again.

If you're replacing the crank, then the block is out of the car. Definitelly pressure wash all the oil lines and do a balance shaft elimination while you're at it. Don't forget to remove the hex plug by the bellhousing holts.

Also clean the oil passages on the crank, and when you're done- clean it some more. You don't want to have to redo everything

As for the oil pump- just wash it good. You'll also need to get rid of the oil cooler. Either replace it, or throw it away. It's full of shavings now and you'll be doing the same thing in a couple of months.
