I had ported my ofh alot. Had it off twice and still too high. I cut one coil off the relief spring. Now oil pressure sits around 25 warm but doesn't go past 55 at redline. Is that ok or should it be higher at redline. Don't want to hurt the motor. I know it supposed to open around 80 so figuring there's a reason for that but I'd like to know for sure.

10 psi per 1000 rpm is a good rule of thumb to follow. My balance shafts are gone and the 1990 ofh is unported. @ idle I have 28psi and ramps up pretty quick to 76psi by 2500ish rpms. I got lucky.

I think you have a bad Oil Pressure Valve.

If you are getting 40 at Idle and you are saying that you Port a lot and over that you cut the spring.

Then is more likely that you have a bad valve.

Replace the Valve and Spring, put a new one and check how it works.

Not going over 55psi is because the massive port that you did.

The 40psi at idle which it has to be more less then that, is more like your valve is not working.

do you have any pic of the porting job?.

So Paul even if it never goes over that and my rev limit is 9 grand that's fine? Just wanna be sure that's safe. I'm only pulling to 7500 right now because the motors not fully broken in. But it might rise a little more at that rpm. But seriouslyl through out the rpms it moves extremely slow. Just wanted to make sure it's safe. What would the minimum psi that you should have at redline?

Whtgst. You only have to worry about it if you delete your balance shafts.

Never goes over 55 psi? Perfect!
And as long as it never goes below 10 psi at idle, you have no oil pressure issues.

I will agree with Racer here.

if you have about 50 psi by 5000 rpm your doing great.

general rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 rpm to appox 50 psi and then your good to about 9000 rpm

look at the nascar engines, most are in the 50-60 psi range at race speed

Smokie Yunnik(sp?) the godfather of the smallblock chevy back in the day, on his built race engines, wanted 7psi at idle and 3 psi per 1000 rpm

Yes I know there is very little in common between the SBC and the 4G63

as long as you do not have lifter tic, and goold oil flow to the turbo..... DRIVE ON!
