Okay I'm putting the pan on and i need to be 100% sure where the two short bolts go so my timing belt wont get chewed. I have the front case on currently so i can't see where exactally the t belt is.

the oil drain plug is obviously at the rear of the motor, the turbo drain AN fitting i have is obviously the front of the motor. for Orentation purposes.

So is it picture one or picture two ImageUploadedByTapatalk1342913991.109355.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1342914010.668519.jpg

Probably need the right answer ince but hopefully this will help other members doing a pan swap or an oil drain bung on their pan for a holset.

    its picture #2

Pic 1. One is directly under the crank sprocket, the other under the oil pump sprocket.

im not exactly sure but one the pan is on you can view how it looks next to the timing belt, thats what i do and adjust from there takes less than a few minutes to see, and get the shorter bolts so it doesnt rub against the belt.

If you look at the flange you'll notice part of the "flange" is actually the front case. Should be self explanatory from there.

They go into the rear main seal flange because the holes are too shallow and wont let the full length bolts thread in.

:ohdamn: They dont go to the rear main seal cap.

Picture 1 has my vote. 1 goes right under the crank sprocket and the other right in the middle of the balance shaft pulley and crank sprocket.

Apparently not cause people have put long bolts in and had a ripped up t belt, the hole is open and doesnt have a depth. If it's supposed to go in the center two in pic one i will do that, all I'm looking for is an answer of pic
    One or two thats all

This is absolutely incorrect. The bolts that thread into the rear main are the same length as the ones that thread into the block. The only two short ones thread into the front case in the locations that I described in post #2.

FSM says pic 2. I checked the 6 bolt & 7 bolt and they are both the same.

D'oh - that's correct. However my description of their locations is still correct, I was just off by one hole visually.

Try that line with a chick. :D

And OP, I'm pretty sure what he was trying to say here is instead of trusting random people on the internet, maybe you should put it together and look under the crank sprocket when you have the pan on to make sure you have them in the correct hole. That's what I would be doing, that's probably what anyone with a brain on them would be doing. Don't just trust people's random answers.

Although, FSM for the win. :hellyeah:

I'm asking for people with experience not rando people so if you don't have the answer don't post here, i installed the two short bolts like picture one, short bolts in the two middle holes of the deep end of the pan. Where the crank sprocket is.

They need to be under the two sprockets - regardless of which pic (and with the pic from the FSM, I'm rescinding my advice of pic 1 - I wasn't seeing it in my head right). Just make sure the two short bolts are under the oil pump and crank sprockets.

I'll not get into what happens when it pops out and you go "off one hole" - it's doesn't fare well for you, trust me :D

Yes, as stated above, both short bolts go under both pullies. As the timing belt wraps around the timing belt pulley it is turned up the side of the engine and does not travel by any more oil pan bolts.

So now you guys are sayin pic two, it really shouldent be this complicated
Of an answer IF YOU HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE! The oil pan is already sealed up but i can still move the two bolts if needed, so which ####ing holes to the short bolts
Go to!?! The pic number two would have short bolts by the oil pickup. The first pic would be on either aide of the crank sprocket. So which one.. I posted
    This thread to get advice
From engine buikders that KNOW an I'm getting all this speculation. Delete your post if you don't answer my OP

And i told you giys the fromt case is on and u wont be taking it off so i can't see the sprockets. That why in asking for the advice,
If i could see where the belt goes i wouldent be starting this thread.

So looking at this pic, now
I'm thinking pic two is correct because the short bolts
Would go directly below the oil pump sprocket and the crank sprocket, so pic #2 would be correct. Who agrees with this
