after i rev at full boost through 3 or more gears and look under the hood a little bit of oil had dripped onto the exhaust manifold causing some smoke. it seems like it is comming from the head gasket... anyone else have any other suggestions?

The head gasket is below the exhaust manifold, so dripping from there won't hit the ex. mani. unless your car is upside down OMG. Do you mean your valve cover gasket?

There is a very small hole on the driver-front side of the VC (valve cover) where water or oil in the middle of the VC (under the plastic cover) can "leak" out so that it doesn't fill up that area. If the oil is leaking from that hole, pull the plastic cover off the middle of the VC and try to figure out where the oil is coming from. It'd probably be a leaking oil cap seal (replace the cap for cheap - check slowboyracing.com or other places).

If it looks like it's leaking from the actual VC-to-head gasket, you can get a new VC gasket set (one big gasket and four rings to go around each spark plug hole and a half-moon-shaped plastic piece) from Autozone for like $45 and fix it. Many DSMers have leaking VC gaskets, but it's easy to fix (but you can break your VC if you don't do it right - search and know what needs to be done to do the job right before you pull the VC off - or ask, as many of us have gone through it more than once).

If you can't tell where the oil is coming from, clean up the engine around the ex. mani. and look for oil to see where it's coming from.

^^Thats correct. I'd first suspect either a cracked valve cover, a bad oil cap/oil cap seal, or valve cover gasket. Autozone/Advance Auto sells the valve cover gasket for $26, oil cap seal for a few more bucks, and our local junkyard charges 4.99 for aluminum valve covers.

Pull your plastic spark plug cover and tell us what you see. You should also pull out each spark plug boot and see if your spark plug well is full of oil.

the oil cap and seal is good... the oil is not leaking from that area i just checked. and this mornign i wiped off all the crud on and around the side of the VC and when i looked at it tonight nothin had appeared to drip from that area. i closed the hood and went and beat on the car a bit and when i came home the top driver side of the exhaust manifold looked wet like oil was dripping on it from somewhere but the valve cover was dry and the surrounding area near it was dry also. if you look right below the valve cover on the driver side in the front there is a small metal box type looking thing with a hole on the left side of it. it seems some oil may be comming out of there... anyone kno what i am talking about?

Maybe your dipstick comes out under boost. That's what mine does. This is usually caused by faulty PCV valve. It causes boost to enter your crankcase and pressurize it. The only way for it to get out is to pop the dipstick out. Then oil sprays out of the dipstick tube, and lands on the valve cover and exhaust manifold, causing it to cook off and smoke.

Dipstick is most likely coming loose from positive crankcase pressure. Check your PCV valve or your rings maybe going.

Check for leaks at the banjo fitting at the front left corner of the head and at its other end at the turbo.

The "box looking thing your talking about is the lift bracket for pulling the motor. No oil will leak from it. Check the vavle cover gasket in that corner and you may find your leak.
