So, Ive had this car up and running for a few years now, and Ive always noticed that there would be some oil built up on the filter housing over a period of a month or so, and Id just clean it up by blasting it with soapy water and a hose. It never left puddles on the ground, but it certainly is annoying considering the time and effort I put into building the car. Anyway, today I decided to port my oil filter housing some more to try and get the high oil pressure down and I decided to tackle the annoying slow leak while Im in there so I pulled the timing cover and snapped some pics. Everything above the front main is very clean and dry, so obviously, since the motor rotates clockwise, the oil is being slung over the filter housing til it pours out, and its done this since Ive had it running.
My question is, if the groove worn into the crank from the original, 100k+ mile seal is causing new seal to leak slowly, is it possible for me to just not set the replacement seal in as far as the one thats in there now so as to avoid the groove and not worry about the thing shifting because its not set into the case all the way? Also, if its the oil pump drive shaft, what can I do to prevent this from developing a leak as that case was brand new when I put it on. Im attaching some pictures...

You could try moving the crank seal forward might work. A groove could definitely cause a leak. I think I saw it on jafro YouTube videos, u can pull the spring out of the main seal, and shorten it a few loops, that will give u a tighter seal. Timken makes pretty good quality crank seals I just replaced mine looks exactly like what u have going on.

There is a seal behind the oil pump pulley just like the front main, only it's a little tiny guy. Replace them both while your there. I put a little blue loctite on the threads for the oil pump pulley to make sure the nut stays on there Just be careful tapping them in so u don't bend them. A oring pick works really well for popping them out. I always put a dab of grease on the new seal so it Dosent fold up when u push it over the crankshaft. hope this helps. I actually did the exact same fix today

Well, the sprocket, I dont remember, and I dont remember if it slips into the seal or not either. I will take a look though and Im going to replace both seals. Hell, the entire front seal kit from Felpro was only $10.99, comes with front case gasket, pickup tube gasket, filter housing gasket, castle plug oring, front main and the oi pump drive shaft seal.

Haha well the last time I did my timing, me and a few buddies got a little buzzed, well I guess I should say well beyond the legal limit, err actually quite trashed. I woke up the next morning to find beer cans all over the place; a empty box of little ceasers, just a total wreck. And here's how my cam gears looked

The intake gear was just tired and had to go to bed LOL. So, I got in there and pulled the sprocket off the oil pump shaft and it was indeed leaking. I replaced the seal and didnt punch it in as far as the last one, as there is a slight groove on the sprocket where it rides in the seal. The front main was not leaking a bit. Lets hope she hold up this time and if not, I will buy a new sprocket...

I am having the same issue but I have it appears oil pouring out of the seal behind the sprocket. I am tearing mine down this weekend to fix. I just rebuilt the motor and put on a used sprocket and didn't check for wear. I did have all new seals and gears for the pump and font case.
