Ok so i just replaced my pcv this morning, dip stick popped out on my way to work. Now my car is missing all over the place, and the dip stick tube seems to be even worse. Get home to find oil all over and the dip stick laying on my engine, check engine light came on no idea of the codes yet. Just want to find out if you guys think its a blown head gasket, or if i need to replace the rings. Either way i guess it doesn't matter, because i have to tear the head off for both of them.:banghead:

it might just need a tune up, has it ever been touched? i would do a compression check and find out what cel code came up. bad ventilation wouldnt make your car miss. hard to tell with out more info but why would you think its a head gasket? do you have coolent in your oil?

It has all new ngk plugs and wires, and i have been getting a smell of coolant in my car every now and then the last 2 days. Plus the radiator hoses are rock hard after like 3 minutes of idling. Yea i was going to try to do a compression test and a leak down test when i get time, but my next day of isn't for 7 days. also no coolant in oil, no gas smell either. Just did an oil change 2 days ago and oil was a gray/black color but is just smelled like burned oil no metal, gas or coolant in it.

The Possible reasons could be the following:

Bad compression = excessive compression blow by
Bad valve seals = excessive boost blow by
Bad PCV = Yes there are bad ones via. factory
Restrictive PCV line = Kinked, oil collects in dip in the line which blocks flow
Bad breather on end of PCV line = if you run that kind of set up
Bad head gasket = compression to oil passages (possibly only under boost if its a small leak)

I would buy the dye that changes color in the presence of combustion gasses in the coolant so you can at least rule out the head gasket issue.

Also if your car smokes at idle the valve seals are probably going out, as long as you know your turbo doesn't leak. This is usually due to the guides wearing out then the valve seals not being able to make up for the extra movement, misalignment, and wear caused by this .
