So my daily driver died, and I don't have $200/month extra for insurance on the 90 gsx devil.
My father in law just bought a new Ford..or something, and I picked up his old ride...
a 95 Hyundai Sonata 2.0 DOHC 5sp'er.
To start with I saw the 9k rpm tach WOW..and when I popped the hood BLING BLING 71k miles 'undercover' 4g63 engine. I was quite surpised bc I heard these Sonata's are very very rare.

I did some research and found close to nothing on the follwing questions:
1.Is this a 6 bolt 1G or 7 bolt 2g engine..how do I find out?
2.What are the main diff except the 9:1 CR, rods, maybe cams? with this version of 4g63?
3.What tranny is it??1g ...2g???
4.Any other possible differences???

Options in my mind:
1. Hack the harness and hook up a 1992 eprom turbo computer.
2. Swap the engine with a 1g T...but..what tranny???? 1g or ..the stock SOnata will work??

IS IT WORTH IT???
I though it would be worth it since these Sonata's are rare , and Turbo Sonata's you can count on your fingers.

thx in advance

What you have is a G4CP block. It is the same block I used to build my stroker motor. It has a 6 bolt crankshaft in it, no oil squirtors, bung for knock sensor is not drilled/tapped, and being its a 95' you will have to use the oil pan/front cover from 95-97 sonatas only. I was able to use 1G timing items but I had to modify the arm the tensioner pushes on.

Everything else bolted right on. (i.e. AWD tranny and my Talon head.) Hope these items help. Good luck.

yepp..it's the 2.0L 4g63 engine "G4CP" block with a 6 bolt cranck.
I figured the 1G head will bolt right on, and but I was confused abt the tranny..since it's FWD not AWD.
Any other info that I should know??
WOuld the 95+ front covers work??ie: Talon, Eclipse 7 bolt covers??
I'm working and planning on the wiring harness at the moment to hook up an eprom ecu,

Im guess you will just need to get a 1g awd flywheel. Im not sure about the mounts and everything. Might have some trouble with that. Your planning on turboing the sonata right.

You MUST use a oil pan/oil pump from a 95-97 2.0L Hyundai Sonata. Topline part number for oil pump OPMI6L.

yep..got it all figured out.
I just need a good wiring harness, and I should be good to go.
I was looking at my dad's EVO III GSR engine bay pics, and my Sonata's engine bay tonite
AND IT IS SO weired! SO manny similarities:
1.Brake master cyl and slave are on passanger side ..not driver side like DSMs;
2.Both got 2nd gen CAS sensor;
3.the fuse box are located in the same spot on both cars;
4.battery located in the same spot;
5.Same exact coolant 'neck' with the cap actualy on the radiator;
6.coil pack oriented same way on the intake man on both;
and soo on
+ the interiour of both cars are almost identical...well no Recaro seats I guess :)
I wanted to share this because it's very funny that a Hyundai Sonata's engine bay is very very close to the Lancer III GSR made in U.K. I discovered this by mistake LOL
