After I had bad luck with my 6 bolt block, today I found "candy?"
I found a 94 Galant 2.4L DOHC, 5 sp manual for sale.
The clutch is bad, and the old man wants 1.5k on it.
I had to triple check and indeed the "April 1993 built Galant" has a 2.4L DOHC 4g64 with a
5 sp code f5m31 fwd(turbo) tranny.
The only thing I don't know it if it's a 6 BOLT or 7 BOLT?
All the engine and tranny mounts are 1G style and look exactly as 1G mounts.
Could I use this engine to build it, or should I still look for a 1g 6 bolt?
Any other comments and suggestions are welcomed!
I don't know much abt. this 4g64...I know it makes 160hp/6000rpm stock, and sounds like a great candidate for BOOST!
thx guys,

That has to be one of the rarest mitsu engines you could find. They only made it for one year, and thanks to mitsu's decision to use it in that configuration, we are now able to do hybrid 4g63 head to 4g64 block engines much easier.

I don't know very much about it, but I assume it's a 7 bolt since the 4g63 was at that point. The engine mounts would also make sense, being the same as the first 7 bolt 1G cars.

yep, found out it's a 7 bolt....
The engine has 105k miles, but the clutch is slipping.
Do you guys know if the make forged pistons and biffier rods for this puppy?
I figure this engine would be the easiest way to build a 2.4L with no clearance issues or any other tricks..
As far as I know the 1g turbo oil pan should fit...
Any imput on a good head gasket for this thing??
I'm trying to make a shopping list before I go to the 'grocery store'.
Does the 4g64 7 bolt got crankwalk?? I have no idea on this one either...

Weisco makes 4g64 pistons up to 0.040 overbore size. The rods are the same as 4g63 rods, so any that work in the 63 work in the 64. Cometic makes an excellent HG for the 4g64 block. The 7 bolt 4g64 does not suffer from crankwalk as frequently as the 7 bolt 4g63, but it can happen to any engine.

The 92 Mitsu Expo Van that I pulled my 2.4 4g64 6 bolt was FWD and it mates up fine to my 91 AWD tranny. Im not sure but I would say that as long the donor car is FWD you should be fine. :thumb:

If its a 94 Galant it s a 7 bolt with no mounts ont he block so it wont go in your 1g.

He is talking about most of the mounts being on the transmission instead like in a 1g the mounts are dispursed on on the tranny one on the timing belt side one on the front and back. On a 2g 7 bolt all but 1 of the mounts are on the trany, but in your case just check VISUALY if the mounts are placed like in your car. I think you will just fine but double check :talon:

You can put a 2g motor into a 1g turbo car, the only thing that will not work is the 2g tranny into a 1g.:thumb:

IT is NOT a 2g motor...it's a 1g 4g64 DOHC with a 7 bolt crank.
It has the same exact mounts as a 1G , I really don't see any differences.
I decided to built this 2.4L, and drop it in my 90 gsx.
I'll keep you guys posted.

its a 1g tranny in a 2g car. because there are no mounts on it.

I have a 95 2.4 in my galant vr4 and the guy that did it came up the the great idea to just leave the front mount off since there is no place to bolt up the front mount. great.

What are you describing as the front? WTF -Could you post a picture of the mount so we can see the issue?

Lets also not forget the Expo's evil cousin... The Eagle Summit (comes in both FWD and AWD). Another DSMer and I found and pulled 2 6-bolts (1 out of a 91 Summit and the other was out of a 92 Expo) just a few weeks ago... I almost started to pull one out a 93 Expo, until I noticed the 2g style tranny mounts. -Never bothered to look to see if it was a 6/7-bolt. -Since I'm building one of these bad boys up for my 1g Talon :D -the motor mounts on these blocks are IDENTICAL to that on 1g FWD/AWD 4g63... Hell, I was even surprised to see that the hole for the knock sensor was even tapped already for a knock sensor! -I'll post some pics soon...
