I have a short throw shifter in my 2g that the previous owner put in, and it's such a POS. I want to put a stock shifter back in to see if it solves to notchiness (sp?) in the shifting.

Problem is, I've never messed around with a shifter before, so I need to know what I need to go back to stock.

Is there anything else I need besides what I have?

Theres no way your short throw is the problem. But go ahead and take it out if you really want to

The former owner may have replaced the 4 rubber mounting pieces under the shifter base plate with solid ones. Also look at the cable ends where they attache to the trans shifter arms they sometimes replace the inserts with roller blade bearings instead of the stock rubber ones.

As stated the shifter probably isn't to blame, usually it's worn/stretched cables or worn out bushings. You can replace the shifter base bushings ($14) with energy suspension shifter bushings very easily, and replace the tranny shifter bushings ($28) easily too and that will make a world of difference in how well it shifts. Also a simple tranny flush ($40) with redline MT-90 will improve it greatly. Shifter cables are more of a pain.

The trans has fresh Evo IX MR fluid as of 100 miles ago. I do have a symborski shift kit here that I could use, and maybe pick up a couple skateboard bearing to try that out.

I'm really hoping it isn't something internally with the trans, I really don't want it to come out again. Would worn synchros cause trouble getting into gear?
