well i have searched for this and no answers. i just bought my 95 talon tsi 2 weeks ago.
and 3 days ago i started hearing this clicking noise from the drivers side. so i decided to look for the cause. opened the timing belt cover where the gears are and didnt notice anything unusual so i ended up revving the engine to about 2k rpms and no noise. it completely dissapeared. from 2k rpms on you hear no noise. careful examinations of the belt and i noticed that the belt was hitting the gears and causing it to make that noise. the question is how do i tighting the timing belt because it do have some play?

all the belts on the car are new and tight except for the timing belt which has some play in it.

sounds like the hydraulic tensioner is going out on you. I hade the same rpoblemon my 92 TSi, eventually it will get worse and worse untill you just have to replace it. But IMO, you should handle the problem ASAP, could mean a broken timing belt if you dont...

change the timing belt, i had the same noise in mine untill it jumped a few teeth and the motor went there shouldent be more than a 1/4 inch of play between the cam gears if theres more, change it...of course you could always wait untill it does snap to be FUBAR, it's better to be safe than sorry dude

well took it to different places today and i heard some outrageous prices 200-350 i was like no way and found someone that would do it for 140 bucks so i was like oh well might as well get it done it was the tensioner that was very loose.

wow and I would cringe to hear the answer if i asked "how many miles are on the t-belt? Do you know?"......
