1G noise and trans fluid leak

I have a 1g AUTO Talon awd tsi. I have two questions. First I was having issues with the car and it wouldnt start to get it back into the garage. So I put it in neutral and eventually got it into the garage. After 15 minutes I see a huge puddle of trans fluid on the ground. It was leaking from where the tcase meets up with the trans. A friend said its most likely the output shaft seal. From searching, I think the same but Im mainly wondering if there was a reason this happened so bad to that seal all of a sudden. Is there another issue I should be worried about that caused it in the first place? I already have the tcase out but when I did that another bunch of fluid came out. Also I only had the car for about a month so I dont know if it was slowly leaking before that.

Second question may be part related to the first. The car is in the middle of being worked on now for the last few months so I dont remember exactly and cant recreate the noise atm. What it does is when shifting say from drive to reverse or vice versa it makes a pretty loud metallic clanking noise. It might be park to reverse or drive too. Cant remember. Ive looked through a few pages of "noise" searches to no avail. What could this be?

I just want to do this all right the first time while Im down there. Im going to be replacing the axles/tcase seals and do the end clutches/shift kit/TC stuff too. Thanks

like a kink kinda sound? mine does that right now and im pretty sure its the mounts... sorry kinda late but just lookin for a thread ### my tcase leaks and i just bought it

Definitely mounts, probably an anti-roll mount since its most noticable shifting forward to reverse or vice versa. If you were able to drive it you would also notice it during rapid accel/decel cycles.

Either output shaft seal or your axle has wiggled its way out somehow. Call me crazy but had pretty much the same problem and my axle had just found it's way out part of the way.
