Title basically explains it all, but heres the non-condensed version. 93 GS, FWD Auto, 2.0. Signals worked fine when the car was parked, sat for about 3 months, now they dont. Hazards work fine.
Ive done my research on this subject and have it narrowed down to three possibilities in my mind. The most likely, is the turn signal switch.. buried inside the steering column. I dont have a chilton manual nor a puller to pull the steering wheel, so I'm exploring all of my options before I decide that this is my problem.
Another thing I'm reading about is the Hazard switch? I assume this is the button to turn the hazards on? If something was funky with that, could it cause my turn signals to stop working, while the four ways still do? Some people were saying loose or corroded connections to their hazard switch was causing their turn signals to malfuntion.
And finally, the turn signal relay? Are the turn signals and the hazards on separate relays? If so, this could be my problem as well. If they are on the same relay, that would eliminate this as a possibility.
Like I said, I've got a feeling that I'm going to be removing the steering wheel this weekend, but I want to explore every other (easier) option before I jump into that.
When I turn the turn signals on, I dont head the click-click, click-click that's normally associated with turn signals. When I turn the hazards on, I do hear that sound. I checked all of my fuses, both by the drivers feet as well as under the hood, and theyre all fine. All of my bulbs are good (including one front corner that is cracked, but the bulb is fine). If any of my bulbs were the root of the problem, it would just be one side affected, and it should still flash, just twice as fast, no?
As I type this out and consider my options and the likeliness of each problem... i have a feeling I'm going to be pulling that steering wheel. Any advice pertaining to this issue that WOULDNT require me to do this would be GREATLY appreciated, but I'd also be very appreciative for any information (maybe a walk through?) on removing the steering wheel and installing a new signal switch.
Thanks DSM'ers. As you can tell from my username, I'm a Nissan guy, but this site has been like GOLD to me for fixing this car- I cant thank you all enough. Merry Christmas (or happy holidays for you "politically correct" fellows)
