So i thought my turbo was going out due to my oil burning. I checked for shaft play on my T25 and the turbine spins freely but other than that no movement whatsover.

So heres what i know for sure:
-NO Shaft Play
-My car eats oil like crazy. Were talking a few quarts in weeks.
-I cant see any oil leaking anywhere (none in engine bay and none on ground)
-My friend said when i take off (accelerate hard he sees smoke)
-I dont see smoke at any time so it cant be that big.
-My friend couldnt tell what color it was but thought it was grayish (the smoke)
-The oil gets really dark...black black
-My car seems to burn more oil when i run it harder

Anyone know what the problem could be? What should i check next?

Oil pressure sender . Mine would not leak sitting still either . But when I drove , the pressure build up , would leak out of my sending unit and burn off of my exhaust .

Where is that, how do i check it, and what do i do to fix it if theres something wrong?

The compression test will tell you the overall shape of your engine. The wet test can tell you if you have bad piston rings. If oil is getting into the combustion chamber then it can only do it a few ways: Valve stem seals, intake valves, exhaust valves, piston rings, or head gasket.

If your compression is low and the wet test doesn't help then take it a step further have a shop do a leakdown test (http://www.dsmgrrrl.com/FAQs/leakdown.htm) and that would tell you exactly where you are losing compression. I.E. Valve stem seals, intake valves, exhaust valves, piston rings, or head gasket.

So by what you said you think its leaking oil then because i thought since there was smoke, that meant it was burning oil. Maybe im confused. Also i hope my engine is still good it only has 80k miles on it. LOL

Well i will do a compression test and it that goes well what do you think it could be. Possibly from the oil sender unit like someone else above posted?

I only mentioned that because it was not clear . Your friend saw smoke . Was it from out of or off of the exhaust ? If it was , you should be able to see it also . Oil sender should be on or around your oil filter housing .

If oil is getting dumped into your exhaust it still smokes.

Is your timing belt covered in oil? My old one was, and so I replaced all of the front seals when I did my T-belt job and that fixed a larget amount of oil leaks.

Thoroughly check around your engine for signs of oil leaks and let us know if you find any.

I had my timing belt done a few thousand miles ago. Had some leaks back then...which i saw on my driveway. I had them sealed and new gaskets put in etc. This time if it did leak it would have to be somewhere else in the engine. I've looked and havent found any. I could look again and i will but i havent been able to find any. The weird thing is my friend would say right when I started to boost it would smoke. A mechanic looked at it and said he thought it was the turbo too but i have ZERO shaftplay. So where else should i look to see if its leaking oil?

Not to bump my thread but i just wanted to tell you guys i cant use the computer anymore tonight. Thanks for all the replies and keep em coming. Ill be back on tomorrow and try to do a compression test tomorrow.

Well how much does it smoke when you hit boost? If its grayish it might be oil being dumped straight into the exhaust system. Have you checked the LICP and intercooler for oil. Also sometimes the oil return line leading from the turbo to the oil pan can get clogged and cause oil to blow by the seals.

has nobody even mentioned that it could be valve stem seals? That won't show any signs leaking except out the exhaust and then it will usually only do it at idle or so when the vacuum is high or right at take off, once the car gets moving then you won't notice any smoke at all.

Well it doesnt do anything at idle, only when i gun it my friend said he saw smoke. I still have to do the compression test and check for further leaks. Get back to you guys tomorrow.

Ok so im doing the compression test right now. One question where is the multi fuel injector fuse? It says in the site i was reading to pull it out so the injectors dont spill gas everywhere. The instructions look like a 1Gen car though and mines a 2G. So do i need to do this. Once the compression test is done ill give you guys the results.

Sorry about that last post...i figured it out. My compression on all 4 cylinders was about 173-175...thats good right?
So whats the problem since everything ive checked is good?

Those are really good numbers. So that narrows out the head gasket, piston rings, and intake/exhause valves.
Now that leaves valve stem seals or something that is dumping either coolant or oil into the exhaust system.

A way to check the valve stem seals is to take off the exhaust manifold and look at the valves to see if they have oil on them, and to look for smoke when starting your car after letting it sit for a while.

While you have the exhuast manifold off, you could check the exhaust side of the turbo for oil as well. I would also check the oil sender, and the oil filter housing to see if anything is leaking in those areas.
