I have a nasty belt sqeal goin on. at first i though it was the alternator belt because ive been having problems with it getting loose. but my battery light never came on and after listening under the hood it seems to be coming from my power steering belt. the belt is new. the belt is tight. my steering feels fine. why would it be making noise?

How far are you able to rotate the belt? Sometimes if there is residue on the pulley it can cause the sequels.

not sure about rotating. il check alittle later. residue makes sense. what about on a tensioner? right next to the lip on my tensioner is like a strip of rust that runs all the way around it..could that cause it?

Had an issue similar to this on my 420a car. check pulley alignment. I had a bolt back out on the p/s pump mounting bracket and it was allowing the belt to "shift" the power steering pump

I have the exact same problem on my 2g GSX, first I had a completely worn out main drive belt which I replaced TWICE! since it continued to slip, finally it seems to be alright. and now i have a bad slip on the power steering pump as well, It wont matter much for now as im swapping in a 6 bolt soon, but I too would like to know the problem, its not a low quality belt as I got the best I could.

My best guess is an issue with the pulley as well, mine looks clean and doesnt seem to be greasy or mis-aligned though, previous to doing the swap i was considering just replacing the pulley with an aluminum aftermarket, which would hopefully solve the issue.

Good luck.

My car had been sitting for a couple years before I bought it and had a similar problem. I replaced the belts on it and they kept talking. I tightened the crap out of them and same thing. I finally just took the pulleys off and took them to work and sandblasted the pulley ribs to get them clean and rust free. I used black slag media so now they have some bite and they never made noise again.

Just make sure and duct tape anything up important (like bearings) that you don't want contaminated or rough.
