so i'm thinking about getting a chip. and one of the options is a no shift to lift. if i get this would it be a no shift to lift everytime even when i'm just doing a daily driving? or could i switch anytime? would this be like doing a heel toe as to when you downshift you get right at the rpm you set it to?

I'm pretty sure you have it backward.
It's no lift to shift,,,meaning don't lift your foot off the gas
to shift. I believe "don't quote me" but the chip limits
the rev as you keep the gas Pedal to the floor and as you push the clutch
you get some extra revs then u drop the clutch.
Race only application,,,but I'm thinking it onlyengages
as you use it,,,doesn't effect normal driving.

It's just a secondary rev limiter so you have the option to keep your foot on the throttle between shifts. Helps maintain power and a little boost so you don't have to build back up from zero again. If you don't want to hit it, just let off the gas when you shift, just like normal. :thumb:

ya sorry mixed it up. so how bout when im taking a corner and instead of doing heel toe would it compensate and do the same thing? rev match or go to the rpm setting its at?

It's not really for traffic DD but more for playing around or doing pulls. NLTS is just another rev limiter for when the clutch is depressed (pedal to floor) and speed is over 'x' mph. It shuts off all cylinders via spark or fuel to bounce off of the specified rev limit (that you choose) so it holds 'x' RPM while the clutch is depressed. This helps keep the turbo spooled and also makes for much quicker and smoother shifting without any worries to the transmission or synchros.

Let's say the NLTS specified limit is 5K. After you get rolling and past 1st gear, hold the throttle wide open and watch the tach. Once it hits 5K+ (I like 5.2K) blip the clutch to disengage 2nd gear, and stab it into 3rd gear ALL WHILE holding the throttle down.

There's a couple threads on this too I believe

NTLS is really only for upshifts and as mentioned is a rev limiter for when you push the clutch in. If you drive normally and take your foot off the gas nothing abnormal happens.

Heel and toe is a braking and downshifting technique and your unlikely to be hitting the NTLS rev limiter while doing this. Same goes for double clutching or rev matching on downshifting unless you're skipping gears. I should also point out that it can't protect you from over reving due to mechanical idiocy.

what about when i downshift with pedal pressed all the way down? would it still go to the amount of rpm set to?

Is there anyway that you could get NLTS on a switch? So you have the switch off when you drive around normally and nothing affects the RPM whether the clutch is in or not and when you get to the track, you can flip the switch to engage NLTS for the race? Also is it a good form of launch control or Anti-lag? Still trying to grasp the whole understanding of NLTS. I have dsmlink v3, not sure if that NLTS is different. Sorry if I am stealing this thread or whatever, didn't want to waste space and make a whole new thread about something in this one.

NLTS doesn't affect normal driving. You wouldn't need to put it on a switch. At least this is what I gathered from the above posts.

If you're using DSMLink just turn it on when you want it, like at the track.

However it sounds like you haven't grasped the different between NTLS and launch control/stutterbox or what anti-lag is. This thread is about NTLS, you can find other threads for the other subjects or try using Google to learn about the differences.

Do you have a link to said chip?

no but i'm getting it from this tuner on here. my1gdsm i think thats his name. hopefully everything works out with this chip. what is the bst rpm to set it at? the tuner suggested 6k. i was thinking 5500 but if he suggested 6k then i guess its a better set up
