I'm sure you guys are sick of these no charge threads, i have searched and found nothing.

Whats happening is i'll drive my car, watching the batt volts, and at first it will start 12.0-12.6. Few minutes later it will be still dropping down to 11.1-11.5v then down to <9.0-9.3v. Is my alternator dying? I replaced it last year with a 90A Canadian model, i still have the same wimpyass AutoValue batt, and i did have a pretty hefty stereo (2200w) in for awhile so could i have fried my battery from high amp draw? I replaced to charge light in my dash and it still doesn't come on at all. My Alt fuse was upgraded to a 120a to be able to handle the 90a. This is really becoming a neusence.

a good alt should be charging any were from 13.7 to 14.5 if you start at 12 or 12.6 thats battery voltage only no charging from alt at all it continues to drop because you are only running off of the battery as for the battery light on the dash if bulb is good it could have a bad printed circuit on back of intsrument cluster or a broken wire some where between the alt and dash you should have battery volts on big battery wire on alt an one of the wires in plug should have power with key on i believe if you have all that your alt is toast

Start your car, unhook the battery cables from the battery. if it stays running, then you alternator is fine.

a little redneck ingenuity

I know with my 96 GS-T Spyder I had battery problems and I thought it was my alt but was the battery, and also I know for my car even if you unhook the battery it just dies on me. Just thank god I had a warranty on my red top so I went to advance an replaced and now no problems thank god. Hope you fix your problems cause I know electrical problems can be a nightmare. That's why I also rewired my alt an put my battery in my truck an I love the extra space I have under the hood now...

I just stuck a 140a alt in and ran an additional 8awg wire to the battery. Charges 13.6-14.1v at idle now:)
