no cat?

I don't mean to sound like a ####y, but did anyone see the movie The Day After Tomorrow? I will always run with a cat because emissions standards are set for a reason. Gaining 2 horsepower because of not having a cat is not worth f#$&*!g up the planet faster than it already is getting f%^&#d.

Disagree with me if you like, but you have no business daily driving without a cat. Anyone who does is either ignorant, irresponsible, an asshole, or any combination of the three. It really isn't worth it, people. :(

yes me driving with no cat is is going to f up the whole world. One again hollywood has claimed another victim. I guess you can put me in the a hole category too.

I'm not running a cat on my GSX or GS. GS b/c I gutted it (which is dumb to do...) and the GSX b/c of the RNR turbo-back

I was just curious of why you say gutting the cat on your GS was a dumb thing to do, I was told instead of buying an aftermarket one to just gut it because its basically the same thing, but i was worried about what the exhaust would sound like....another reason is because i think my catalytic is clogged. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

Sopposedly gutting your cat creates a "somewhat" backpressure effect, Ok, yes it dont have the Honeycomb screen anymore, and your thinking it flows better, but because of the inner shape not beeing straight, the airflow hits the walls and creates a circulating flow, not allowing the air to flow freely, then againg it doesnt hurt performance, because you had that Honeycomb screen before and now you dont have it, but you still have flow restrictions, solution: get a striaght pipe, no flow restrictions of any kind.

Correct me if im wrong, but personaly I've heard of those famous "2 horsepower" or more gain from a straight pipe, then from gutting your cat, actually people who gut their cats dont see or feel any difference at all.

Hope this helps.

no cat but because of it my exhaust is so friggin loud...not a good loug either

it's like a nehhhhhhhhhhhh!!

I am and it was the stupidest mod I've ever done without an AFC. I run rich and sacraficed good gas mileage by a lot.

I thought the exact same thing after i watched "cat in the hat"

Man I sure hope that never happens...

(stolen from jay leno) :D

No cat here

and just so you dont die completely ignorant:
http://www.sepp.org/controv/catalytic.html

It goes both ways.

I ran a stock cat on my 3" exhaust with a magnaflow muffler and it sounded deep and mellow, not like a rice rocket (thank god). Then i added a 3" HF cat from magnaflow and that mellow sound became a little louder but now through the whole rpm range. I don't see a problem running no cat at a race track, just the downpipe; but on the street for more than 3 months is ridiculous. By 3 months, u cheap bastards should be able to afford a HF cat. :dsm:

Now, I know I am preaching to deaf ears in this forum, but I am hoping that some moderately intelligent and thoughtful people will read this entire post and UNDERSTAND why we should just leave our cats on our cars.

To the second quote above, you are definitely in the A hole category already. You have no clue how ignorant you sound: "me driving with no cat is going to f up the whole world." That's like saying "one vote doesn't make a difference, I'm not going to vote." What if everyone thinks this, as the majority of people on this site seem to? Unbelievable how retarded you are.

To the first quote, thanks for that article; it only strengthens my case. I used a movie because The Day After Tomorrow is about on the level of most people posting in this forum. One of my degrees is in astronomy, and I guarantee I know more about the inaccuracies and scientific fallacies in that movie than anyone else who has posted on this thread, so don't dumb it down for me.

The article you linked to brings up an excellent detail that I was unaware of: catalytic converters produce SOME N2O. What we are dealing with here is the lesser of two evils: if cars didn't have catalytic converters, the incredible amounts of carbon dioxide that would be spilled into the atmosphere would do incredibly much more damage than the miniscule amounts of N2O that are created by cats.

The planet Venus is an example of what is called "runaway greenhouse effect". Carbon Dioxide is so prominent in Venus's atmosphere that when solar energy passes through the atmosphere in the visible, it cannot escape in the infrared because of the thickness of CO2 clouds. Now, N2O is one of the trace gasses that contributes to global warming, but the very tiny amount of nitrous oxide that is released by catalytic converters is nothing compared to the devastating smog that would blanket our atmosphere without them. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but in the lifetimes of our children or grandchildren global warming may reach catastrophic levels. Do you know what the temperature on Venus is? Around 850 degrees fahrenheit. Have fun driving your car without a cat at that temp.

Just leave your cats on people. You've heard several guys claim they saw no performance gains. There is no reason to take the catalytic converters off. I stand by my first post.

how many of you daily drivers out there are running with no cat?

me! It throws a cel though :thumbdown but doesn't bother me that much.

Yes I guess im ignorant, for not having one. If you wanna send me some money to by a new one, I'll put it on for all you environmentalist! See im poor, I own a car that something breaks at least once a week. The day I got the car it threw a bad cat code. Cats are expensive, so when I put my DP on I bought one with a cat eliminator.

If you think us driving around with no cat is bad, check out gas powerd lawnmowers. OMG

I dont use a cat and I like it. Theres alot of other things that pollute more than a handful of dsm'ers with no cats. but they are there for a reason so I'm not completely ignorant!

we might end up like venus if we didn't have trees or plants on our earth. i mean they Do filter co2 into oxygen, right?

Mr. Joe MAttews i said what i did because you are saying that people who do not run cats are going to cause something like the day after tomarrow. I thought that sounds a little extreme so i laughed adn made a joke about it. I do realize that cats do prevent a lot of CO2 from going into the air, and they do serve a point. I just don't think that no cats are going to cause such a extreme event as the movie you watched. Also calling people igorant when you know nothing about them is stupied think before you type!
