I have a couple of NGK V-Power Spark Plugs, and just wanted to know if they are any good? I bought them from the guy at Advance Auto parts and he said that they were good for Turbo engines. Cause I used to have a Miller-Cycle supercharged engine. I never used them, and I am thinking about just popping them in on my DSM with the right gap...
 
The BPR6EY NGK V-Power plugs are just like the NGK BPR6ES standard plugs but with a V-shaped center electrode. This forces the spark to the edges of the electrode so that it doesn't impede the growth of the flame core as much. The V-Power plugs are definitely an improvement over the standard plugs and you would be fine using them. I respectfully disagree with those who say the standard plugs will offer the best performance.
 
I use v power plugs and never have had a problem. Yet!!! But on the other hand I have a 6 bolt..Defiant IDK if you have a 6 bolt swap or not...But standard plugs could be just fine in 7 bolts..Untill I pick up my 7 bolt I wont know if v power will be right for me anymore, but I will try both and see how it goes...
 
Reg BPR6ES should be alright, although my 2g with a 7bolt, once i went to a 14b, ran SO MUCH better with 7ES. I just did a 6bolt swap, and i have a b16g now, run about 20psi, and 6es had my idle around 1050. I swapped a set of 7ES, down to 900, when it should be 750. I dont think I need 8ES, but I won't ever NOT put 7s in any dsm I have.
 
I've tried NGK V-Power plugs in my non-turbo GS, and they did nothing to improve performance or fuel economy.

Back in my motocross days, I had just gotten into racing fulltime when Splitfire plugs got really big....somewhere around 1992. I had guys swear up and down that Splitfire plugs made their bikes pull harder and they didn't foul. Curious, I HAD to try some of them. If anything, they fouled QUICKER than my BR8ES NGK's that I had used for years. No increase in power.....all I saw was an increase in my spark plug's price tag from $2 each to $8 each.

I've yet to find a new type of spark plug that performs to the standards of the advertisement. You'll probably see a bigger increase in power by changing your standard plugs more often than required instead of buying into the advertisements for those V-Power, Splitfire, or any other modified spark plug.
 
Ive just know the BPR6ES are the way to go, DSMs have been around for a while, and people know the different products, going out on a limb with a DSM isn't always the smartest choice :thumb:
 
Don't buy into the eBay scheme of '20hp gain per spark plug!' and all that BS. You'll see no performance gain. Don't waste your money on buying $50+ spark plugs.
 
Yeah, I doubt you would notice a difference going from standard to V-Power plugs. The point I was making is that they are technically a better design and would not cause any problems. Some people seem to think the Standard plugs are the only plug that is suitable for our car. And while it may be the best value, I don't think you can say it is the best performing. Of course, we're talking miniscule differences here. Nothing the butt-dyno would pick up.

Oh, NGK says it'll "force the spark", eh? That'll be some trick. The spark is going to take the least-resistive path, and that will depend on just which, just how many, and what kind of valance charge the particular molecules that are in and near the electrode gap. It won't care about some goofball groove that's designed to be something to take a picture of for the magazine advertisements. "Flame core"? The flame in a high-swirl doesn't have so much a core as a random mass without direction nor aim.

Don't spend money on nothing. Spend it least of all on expensive advertising hype.
 
One more fact I hope helps is that if you upgrade you coils, or do a c.o.p set up. There will be a hell of alot more spark to send through the path of least resistance. So in turn if you want to get more out of you plugs alone, your waisting your time and money..Upgrade your coils and wires, then try the butt dyno and see what happens....
 
Coil-on-plug is purely a waste of $500-1000. It wouldn't make any difference to a daily drive car. Some people that have 600-700hp still run on normal spark plug lines.
 
Nice to know, but have seen people without that much HP run cop setup.. And some dyno's are not set up to use a cop. So some times it's just not good ro run at all...Ohh and the $500 to $1000 to put this on is not really what it would cost. You can go to a junk yard and pull some off any vehicle that meets or exceeds our voltage requirement and use those...

And the path with the least restriction would be the elevated edges which is further away from the ground electrode. There are third party test results that prove the V-groove design is better. Better enough to notice? Probably not.

V-Power plugs will gain you 200+ horsepower on a DSM!!*

*as compared to no spark plugs

Coil-on-plug is purely a waste of $500-1000.
I bought the coil on plug setup that my buddy's currently using on his 2G new on eBay for $158. A far cry from $500-$1000.

We didn't notice any performance gain, but with the plugs gapped at .028 using Magnecor wires he was getting plug blowout at 25psi.....sometimes lower depending on air temps. With the coil on plug, the plug blowout was eliminated.

Was it worth $158? Probably not....we could've gapped the plugs tighter and stayed with the Magnecor wires; but it sure cleaned up the engine bay...and he'll never have to buy another set of wires.

Yeah, I've seen in some tests that the Magnecors actually performed worse than stock wires. You might have gotten away with just getting some NGK or MSD wires.

Can you find the test results from this third party???Or know who the third party was at least???
 
I had thought that a true COP setup fired each cylinder individually instead of wasted spark.

I ran the V power on accident for a while. Didn't notice a bit of change. It didn't cost any more, but it's not as satisfying as going up and asking for bpr6es or 7's

You cannot go junk yard plugs or eBay dupes for coil-on-plugs setup. You need real 300m coil-on-plug will do the job like Switzer, Buschur Racing or Supra plugs. In addition you need a capacitive discharge ignition, CDI, too so it will fire at the right charge and won't misfire. All in all, the coil-on-plug cost $350-500 and the CDI cost $400-600.
