Newly rebuilt motor knocking

just rebuilt motor. wiseco pistons eagle rods and reman head. it ran great the past couple nights but i just went out and it knocks. is there a reason for this that would not be bottom end?

Knocks come in a bunch of flavors. First there's the light tap of a cracked piston skirt, then there's the wrist pin knock and lower down is a rod knock and the lead mallet rap is usually a main. I have also seen counter balancers knock. This is usually between # 1 and # 2 cylinders on the rear of the engine. You need to get a mechanics stethescope to locate your knock. Also, you can get the engine to knock and have someone remove 1 spark plug wire at a time to see if it goes away. When it does, that is the cylinder you should home in on.

I've also had a piece of carbon come loose and raise hell inside a cylinder.

So........ without hearing it it's almost impossible for us to locate it for you. We can offer however, ideas of places that have caused this problem in the past.

Could it be lifter tick? I've also heard of a warped exhaust manifold either making noise or allowing you to hear the valves or something. It was a while ago and I cant remember why exactly it would make noise.
