wparks replied to the thread 1G ECU examination.
I can see clearly that the center smaller one has never been replaced- that is undisturbed factory solder. The best way to tell is to pull the board from the bottom cover, and look at the underside. Don't be scuffing your feet on the carpet when...

wparks replied to the thread 1G IPS wire missing.
Since you have that ECU open, order a capacitor replacement kit like this one: https://machv.com/products/ecu-capacitor-replacement-kit-89-94 and have a local TV repair shop, friend, or someone at a local maker space replace the capacitors...

wparks replied to the thread 1G IPS wire missing.
When the car is warm and all accessories are off, the idle should settle in around 750 RPM (your dash tach should be accurate enough to check.) If it is in the ballpark you should not need to do an idle speed adjustment. It is likely it's time...

Someone in Colorado Springs is selling a custom sand rail with a 4G63T turbo engine and FWD transmission mounted in the rear. Looks like a really well done custom build...

That does not seem like a lot of play to me- should not cause any problems, but given that it just appeared I understand it can be concerning. I bet the steering linkage was pulled tighter when it was bolted to the input shaft of the steering...

wparks replied to the thread 1G IPS wire missing.
When I rebuilt the throttle body on my '90 GSX I observed that the throttle position sensor wires and IPS wire were together on a short harness clamped on to the throttle body that came out to a common squarish connector on the side of the...

wparks replied to the thread 6 bolt balance shafts delete?.
Well, the balance shafts are there to eliminate several vibration harmonics that come from the rotating assembly, so with the shafts removed the engine is often described as "more buzzy".I did this on my 6-bolt and while that is noticeable, I...

14.3V is not high for the alternator running. It will when running hold the battery at the "Absorb" or "Topping" voltage of 14.2-14.6V typically depending upon load. All is good there. BTW- the bearings in the alternator are sealed, unlikely to...

wparks replied to the thread 1G Barn find won't start.
I should have mentioned that the crank pulley will be at it's timing mark twice in a 4 stroke cycle, and the timing gear will be at it's timing mark only once in the 4 stroke cycle- So if the crank pulley is at it's mark and you don't see the cam...

wparks replied to the thread 1G Barn find won't start.
Check the timing belt. Since the compression is super low, does not increase when you add oil (not rings) and is more or less equal across cylinders (not head gasket or a single stuck valve, not likely ANY stuck valves if you get SOME...

What I’m saying is the crank sprocket for the timing gear was torqued against the key. Not with the key in it. So it legit was only riding against it. It must have spun on him and that’s why all the intake valves were broke. I have it all back...

Sacrileger- you did test the tensioner in a way if you compressed it slowly in a vice to get the pin back in- if it was slow, patient, difficult going to push the shaft back in it should be fine. If it were a new one that spent a lot of time in...

Ah Yes- all very important tests. Be sure to check your PCV valve it that gets gummy you could be getting boost into the valve cover. Unless you already have probably just replace as they are so cheap. Compression test and base timing are very...

Sorry, I did not see your fabricated cover before I posted. I just cringe at the idea of driving through a big puddle and muddy water spraying up in there. I also don't really like having to use RTV for this, but it's about the only thing you can...

BTW- in porting the manifold outlet - I love high speed carbide burrs- in a die grinder it makes porting that 2g manifold oh-so-easy, and same goes for the throttle body inlet elbow casting burr. I like the 2g O2 housing as it moves the oxygen...

Since you are upsizeing the stud I assume it's the aluminum head that is stripped? Fortunately the 2g manifold does use larger studs on the two ends so no need to drill the manifold larger. Tapping the aluminum will be a real PITA. I hate tapping...

Make your life a LOT easier and just get a cam gear lock to hold the gears in the perfect position- you can get one on ebay for dirt cheap- just search "4g63 cam gear lock" and get one for $15. I bought the aluminum one, but the plastic one is...

I too suffer long cold winters living off-grid at 8500 feet, and thank goodness my workshop has a big wood stove- gives me a safe warm place to spend long dark nights tinkering on projects. There are a lot of "invisible" free or low cost...
