Quick question and im ready to be put over the fire for not searching, but I never have any luck finding exactly what I need. Always seems to be conflicting answers. I recently purchased a 92 laser rs awd the car at some point was converted to a fwd. I have a 90 awd parts car with a good trans, transfer case and drive shaft. My question is will the 90 awd trans, transfer case and drive shaft work in the 92 laser? I'm sure I will have a ton more questions as time goes on, but this will be a good start for me. Thanks for all the help.

I don't know if this helps but I swapped out a 94 awd trans, transfer case, and rear end with no problem in my 90 talon because it's stronger. I just had to make sure I had the 23 spline transfer case to go with the tranny.

Yes it will. You will need to swap the shift arms and brackets located on the trans. 90 and 92 will have slightly different linkage. If you swap without doing this have fun shifting haha. It's an easy task though.

Also on Google all I do is type in a few key words... always start with dsm.
Example: dsm 90 to 92 trans swap

Awesome thanks for all the help. I will say I'm not the best with computers and search functions, but look forward to learning all that I can from you guys. !!

I know about the bracket, but when you say shift arms what exactly are you talking about? what the linkage connects to?

Ignore that arm thing for now.
I swapped a 90 trans in a 92 only changed the bracket, adjusted cables and it shifted as it should. I did this style swap twice with out issue.. at that time I didn't know I could use a 2g trans up to 96... and for whatever reason I always came across 90 dsm parts cars and trans.

In a different 92 dsm i swapped in a 90 trans, changed bracket, adjusted cables a million times and no 5th,reverse, notchy down shifts. I took trans out and opened it up just because I could... I then removed the arm and swapped in a 92 arm. Put the trans back together and it all worked.

Now my friend did a 90 to late 91 swap and he couldn't get it to shift right with just the bracket, so he decided to swap in shifter assembly and cables from the 90 dsm. His shifted perfect after that.

This guy posted some comparison pictures of transmission brackets, ect. He also talks about the arm swap. Keep in mind I did not take the arm apart while it was attached to the trans.... it's not the greatest idea.

Got ya..hopefully it will be as easy as bracket swap. If not i got the entire parts car

Makes it nice to have the parts car. I was in the same boat when I did my first swap 9 years ago... I did tons of searching but everyone was going back and forth about the swap. I didn't know who to believe. People who had a great amount of proven knowledge had different opinions. So i finally just did it. bottom line... it is interchangeable with few things done. As long as you have both trans and tcase from the 90..Good luck with the project. Also make sure the tcase is not leaking. If it is and fluid is low or metallic... you might want to consider opening it up and inspecting it. These are deadly if they lock up on you on the road. They take very little fluid so even the smallest drip/leak will add up quickly.

* wife has dinner ready so did not proof read hopefully all was good*

Thank you again for advice. Like I said im sure I will have more questions down the road. And don't worry about proof reading with me. I am the world's worst.
