I know about ECMlink and Evo flash- they both have their strong suits.

My question is for someone who does not plan on doing the tuning themselves, which would a tuner shop be more familiar with?

ECU flash can use EVO Scan, right? So would tuner shops be more familiar with ECU Flash than ECMlink?
I define tuners as shops that tune WRX's, MS6's, EVO's etc.... Late model cars. I hear Tactrix works with 98+ ECU's?

What would be a good price for a ECMlink Cable + Socket-ed ECU ready to go?

In St. Louis, I know of at least one tuner shop that was familiar with ECMLink. ECMLink's one of the best, if not the best, on the market. You can control so much of the computer very easily even if you don't want to do map tuning.

This link shows the price of ECMLink products. The full package cost $545.

I bought the V3lite years ago but think about upgrading. It's too bad they don't offer lite still and I still recommend the ECMLink V3

You'd have to ask the shop that you intend to take your car to, unfortunately it's kinda hard for us to guess, or use our crystal balls to see what every tuning shops tastes are when it comes to engine management softwareLOL,and with all the software that is available out there now:hmm:, I wouldn't be surprised if they all don't like the same brands.

Of course you could always do the obvious, and call some of the tuner shops in your area, and ask them what they prefer for tuning dsms.

I personally bought full v3 dsmlink/ecmlink software thats what I invested in, and so far its miles ahead of what I was expecting, it does what everyone claims, and then some, definitely among the better option, and for the diy tuner Its mandatory LOL, I really loved the way they stand by and support their products, my copy of link had some issues at first, but shipped it out to ecmlink and everything I asked for was done to it, in record time I was surprised by their level of skill and effort great group of people over there at ecmtuning inc.

I have called shops here in my area that tune WRX's, MS6 (All the COBB stuff), GTR's and EVO's (AWD dyno shops) and none of them were familiar with DSM's or ECMlink. One even said DSM's were a bit dated and it would take them some time to either research or find another tuner. They must be so spoiled by their late model cars that they've forgetten the about the real cars :).

I'm not sure how similar EVO-scan and ECUFlash are, but I was thinking that perhaps these shops would be more familiar with them. So I guess I'm just wondering about you guy's experience as well.

For a second-hand socketed Eprom ECU with the cable, what would someone expect to pay?

EcuFlash is an editor and handles the reflashing using the Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 hardware. EvoScan is also an editor and does some real time logging display, whereas currently EcuFlash only does logging to a built in micro-SD memory card slot, which means you need to review the data after you do a run. That can be more convenient for a track day where you can't have a laptop tethered while you're driving but less so for tuning in your driveway. EvoScan doesn't do any reflashing.

This youtube series is a good introduction to EcuFlash. It's using a slightly older version of our software but it's mostly similar to the appearance of our current version though we've made a lot of firmware and device driver updates since that version was released.

You must be logged in to view this image or video.

Even without an OpenPort to do the reflashing you can download our free EcuFlash software from our site. If you send me an email to support at tactrix dot com I can send you a 1998 ROM image so that you can open in it in our software to see what tables you'd likely have access to. What tables would be available can vary between ROM revisions depending on what has been discovered but it usually doesn't vary too much.

They should be familiar with both for the most part but one's that deal with 4g63s should be VERY experienced with ecm link as for it's on of the most popular of choices!
