Hi Guy
Im fixing to replace my head gasket, and get a performace timeing belt, and fmic. Anybody got a suggestion on what type I should get. Especially the head gasket looking ot push high horsepower eventually. Its a 1990 eagle talon tsi.

Thanks for the help

Well if you don't have your block and head out then you will need to use a composite head gasket. So with that in mind just use the OEM HG.

What kind of numbers are you looking at and with what turbo at what psi? Get ARP head studs put in and I wouldn't worry about a Kevlar timing belt.

Once you replace the timing belt, be sure to replace the pulleys, tensioner and the balance shaft belt if you still have it.

As for the FMIC I can't tell you what to get because you don't have your profile up to date. I will say to continue using the stock SMIC until you consistently heat soak it before moving to something bigger. You will get better gains with fuel and tuning mods first.

Follow the upgrade path and do maintenance before mods. Do you have a boost gauge at all?

Like LiQUiDx said, unless you get the mating decks of your block and head refinished, then 4 layer metal head gaskets are out. That leaves composate head gaskets and an OEM Mitsubishi is the best.

As far as a performance timing belt, I'm using the Gates Racing belt which was the best belt I found and it has the best price. Other options are the HKS belt and the Greddy belt. The OEM belt is good on its own accord and if you're on a budget then it will fit the bill. Please don't get any other brands (ebay, auto parts store, etc.)!

When it comes to FMIC's, for the price, you can't beat the Punishment Racing Intercooler kit.

Also refer to the upgrade path that LiQUiDx posted and try not to get ahead of yourself when modding. Do the basics first and work your way up. FMIC's look great but your money might be better spent elsewhere in the beginning.

Hope this helps!

Some are. You can look through the Upgrade paths for what's interchangeable. The 2g head will work on a 1g block if you modifiy the head a bit. but a lot of parts are simple bolt ons.

You'd be fine if you stuck with an OEM belt

Got a chance to buy a completly built race motor never used. Built by a racing shop for a demo car that they decided not to use. Being sold for 2k cause guy is going through divorce. Capable of 800 hp. 2k a good deal?

Depends on what the internals are and what kind of work was done to it. You can have a race ready motor for less but may not be the same as one for a higher price. Work done and internals make a difference.

Checking it out in more detail tommrow. Supposedly its built from bottom up all the way with race parts. Ill let yall know more when I see it.

JE 9.0:1 CR pistons, JE pro-seal rings, eagle rods w/arp rod bolts, acl bearings, fresh crank, new front case/oil pump, balance shaft elimination, mitsubishi 4/5 layer MLS headgasket (probably one of the the best/most expensive headgaskets on the market currently), ARP head studs, ferrea valves, viton seals, WEB 272 camshafts, fidanza cam gears, five angle valve job, head and block were both surfaced.

How much is a head with that worth? New motor not rebuilt? And Thanks for the advice i got exactly that for my car putting it on as soon as it arrives.
