How do you know what is more practical a completely new engine or an engine rebuild?
How do you know if an engine is past the point of revival?

rebuilt is almost always more practical due to cost -

A motor is past its rebuildable point if it has a hole in the block ,
or has so much wear the cylinders cannot be cleaned up w/o the walls being to thin.
(you basilcy have to measure the bore)

The only way a rebuild is past rebuildable is if you cracked the block....

Other than that you can rebuild any abused, or beaten motor.

Rebuilds usually cost less money, but they also cost more for labor than a swap does...

I swapped a new 6bolt for 2700$ Labor + Block.

Thanks you guys cleared that up.
How can I tell if I have a 6bolt or 7bolt based on year and model?

89 - 5/92 = 6 bolt
6/92-99 = 7 bolt

Thanks :thumb: sorry if this question has been answered a millions times before, but when I searched it all I found was definition of 6bolt and 7 bolts and explananation of crankwalk, so those questions are eliminated :D

Ok my final dumb engine question is... So if im going to do a 6bolt swap does that mean that I am swapping for a 1g motor?

Not exactly. 1Ga is refering to body style, 90'-91' pop ups, you can still find 6 bolts in 92's. :)

Very true, my laser came with 6bolt and 4bolt lsd :D

Also, I'm rebuilding my engine currently as we speak, so I'll post up some pics in a new thread to give you an idea on how difficult it will REALLY be :D (I mean fun WTF )
