So im new to the DSM world just bought my first one was driving a 1990 honda civic now own a 1997 420a non turbo was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions to do to the engine to make it a little faster as far as like turboing it as it stands or intakes i should use exhaust i should use the little things like that every suggestion helps thanks

well adding boost to a 420a is kinda pointless. Since your going to spend a ton to make it even half way reliable. As in a complete new rotating assembly, new ECU, basically everything under the hood would need to be replaced or gone thru to handle any kind of decent boost. Welcome to DSM, this is not B series engine, and its a pain in the ass. Just when u think u have her perfect she will bite you in the ass. Welcome to your new money pit.u could ###### put a small shot on it for those days you really want to beat that yellow light. What kind of budget would you be working with on something like this? I think that will help people point you in the right direction more.

i make over a grand a paycheck and looking to get this car up and running quick id like it to be street legal but be able to destroy v8s on my way to work u know and ty all but u dont recommend putting a turbo on a stock motor?

Def. not. If you plan on turboing it and making good reliable power and the motor to laste I would pull the motor and build it for boost.

its hard to find imports where im at where i lived i could find one on every block any suggestions of where to get one

dont give me that excuse. I make a grand a week to. and if I want something bad enough, I would travel to where it is to get it. I picked up an 89 MK3 supra from 11 hours away from me because I wanted it bad enough. Don't let lazy be an excuse for your engine. If you make that kinda money, buy a 4g motor and do a swap. Your not going to eat many v8's with a 420a, and none that are anything but stock. Not without picking your crank up off the ground after each pass. Can u do it, sure, but is it worth it?

If the chassis is good, just swap out the motor and trans and have a solid 4g motor. Or u can try to boost your 420a and see how that turns out for you. Your in iowa, there are dozens of imports there. Pick any major city and im sure you will find atleast one GS-T, GSX, TSi or some form of turbo DSM for sale. Hell u could go to the quad cities easily, des moines or even chicago

would anyone have a website where i can buy a 4G engine so i can do a swap?

And after this they tell me to go find a decently boosted 420a

thats what i was told to so i found a 420a and jumped on it :toobad:

Now this may sound stupid but whats the difference between a 1g and a 2g

Well I'm trying to find a swap for my car so any suggestions ?

Now this may sound stupid but whats the difference between a 1g and a 2g

1g - 1990 - 1994
1ga - 1990 - 1991
1gb - 1992 - 1994

2g - 1995 - 1999
2ga - 1995 - 1996
2gb - 1997 - 1999

1g came with both a 6 bolt (1990 - very early 1992) and a 7 bolt motor (1992 - 1994) the 1ga is a flip up light model and the 1gb is a fixed front light model. the 6 bolt is the gem block of the dsm community due to the lack of crankwalk compared to the 7 bolt motor meaning the cranks have different amounts of bolts holding it.

Doing a 4g63 turbo swap into a 420a is not going to be a smart idea considering the 420a sits backwards to the 4g63 motor, Unless you plan on spending about 10 grand in labor and parts puting a mivec evo 4g63 in it

the 2g just looks sleaker but is significantly heavier than a 1g has a wider wheel base than a 1g and has a smaller turbo than a 1g. Alot of parts are interchangeable between the 2 motors like pistons heads and exhaust manifolds along with throttle bodies and elbows.

Their is an everlasting feud between the 1g and 2g guys for some reason about which is better. In my eyes I favor a 1g simply because I am not obsessed with appearance. I also don't believe in having to buy a 4 thousand dollar car just to have to swap the 6 bolt in for peace of mind when I can spend 900 on a 1g and have it already.

But in the end I like both 1g and 2g simply because they are both DSM and both carry the same idea and same motor after all.

it could have not been explained any better then that:thumb:

So where would be the best place to find a 1g instead of ebay

meaning the cranks have different amounts of bolts holding it.

I think you need a little bit of editing, I believe what you meant was that there are a different number of bolts holding the flywheel to the crank. Sorry to correct you, but we didn't want anyone thinking in V-8 terms where 4bolt would mean there are 4 bolts per main cap.
