Heya guys,

By no means am i an amateur tuner. I had a Cobalt SS/SC that i tuned religiously depending on the weather. Problem is that my brother asked me what kind of car I'd get and i told him that I would have gotten an AWD 6 bolt talon.

Well he got it. 3 inch exhaust, boost controller, CAI, and larger turbo. Im assuming the injectors are upgraded as well since he compared to a donor car that he bought and they werent the same.

So he purchases this car with a blown head gasket, gets the head worked and rebuilt and asks me what i need to tune it. I did a little searching online and suggested ecmlink and that he couldnt cheat and NOT get a wideband. So he got the AEM eugo which isnt a bad wb.

Now here comes the specifics. Im unfamiliar with the actual application of ECM link, however i tuned quite a bit with HP Tuners.

My questions are,

What timing am i looking at for a 1g at WOT (guestimate)
Does anyone have the stock tune file (this ecu is socketed)
If anyone has a 550cc IFR table i can go off of as a base.

Also another thing ive noticed, which i have never had to go through is there is a cable to the MAF that looks like some sort of bypass. Is this to fool the computer and go straight to MAP?

Any other info i should know would also help as id rather be on the "safer" side.

Post up a pic of the engine bay, it may have a maf translator to let is use a gm maf. Timing depends on fuel octane, boost, and the turbo, among other things. The 1g timing from the factory peaked at about 22* at full boost. If you search this site you will find answers to all of your questions. To learn more about burning chips for the ecu go to the yahoo autos group, dsm-ecu. They have factory maps and such. For different injectors you don't change the whole fuel map you just change the injector size, and deadtime values in the ecu.
 
Welcome to the forum Russ (Dad)
The base timing at 850-900rpm is 5deg adjusted at the cas.
If you get an eprom writen with higher timing maps, you are
expected to set the base at 5 at he cas.
If you use a std chip, you can trial & error raise the overall
timing at the cas & road test it.
An safc is handy for fine tuning your afr with your wideband.
A fella on here called jeffo makes eproms if you pm him.
In my case, it was like father - like daughter instead.

thx guys for the tips.

he actually had the dsmlink guys socket it for him and give the base tune. When running he was more like 8 deg at idle (750 rpm). I dont have the engine bay pics on me since he lives about an hour away and i planned on doing this tomorrow.

His boost controller would let him go to 22 psi (i think) with a 16g. I looked at the logs late at night when he first got it fired up and he is running around 3 degrees of KR and 13 AFR during idle which is telling me he may have 650cc injectors. However we adjust -18% (for 550cc) and his rev limiter went to 4500.

Is there a way to look at the ECM link in a chart-style view instead of line?
