Just have a few questions....
Im not new to the DSM platform or to mitsubishis but I just picked up a 94 talon awd and I have a few questions that I'm probably know the answers to but I am brain dead at the moment cause its finals week so here is info on the car followed by questions.
Its a 94 like a said tsi AWD automatic. 103k in very good shape. motor has been rebuilt within 500 miles and trans shifts real well. Interior is clean and well kept good tires , breaks whole nine yards. I got it for 1900. I figured it was a good deal. All i need it for is a daily driver in the winter so that i can park my 3000gt. Here are my questions.
1. How do I break in a rebuilt motor like this one?
2. How long till I can use synthetic oil without risking anything?
3. It seems to have an obnormaly loud lifter tick. I checked the oil this morning and it was low so i think it might go away with the proper amount of oil. I drove it home and the lifter tick would go away sometimes then come back so i guess its gotta be oil.
4. The oil that is in the car seems rather dark. If it only has less then 1000 miles on the motor why is it dark like this? The motor is definetely new because you can just look at it and tell the head and block have been at least cleaned. The cams and lifters all look spotless too so someone did something.
5. last thing. when the car starts it turn over fine but once the car turns over there is a noise coming from the starter. Sounds like the starter doesn't disengage or somehting like that. Like its hitting the flywheel. Any thoughts??

If anyone has any comments that would be great. Also let me know what you think about what I payed. I always like others opinions. Thanks

search, there are hundreds of threads about this topic. What year is your vr4? I used to have a 94 with 15g turbos. I wish i still had it.

Its a 92. Picked it up in april and decided its to nice to drive in a michingan winter. Only got 100k on it and pulls hard as a mother. No offense to the dsm platform I love it but a 3000gt has got it hands down and htem some feet to. Anyone who loves a DSM should up grade to a 3000. Insurance isn't as bad as it seems.

Not trying to get into an arguement or anything, but I thought I'd defend the DSM's on this one. Granted the 3000 is twin turbo, but an awd DSM can pull just as hard. I know from experience that the 3000's feel alot faster than they are. They are fast, but like I said so are DSM's (and the aftermarket seems a lot less expensive)

I was never attacking the DSM platform. Its great for what it is. An entry level japenese performance car but a stock dsm pull harder then a stock 3000? Im sorry your wrong. Want proof look up the numbers. Stock 3000 runs 4.8 0-60 and 13.4-13.7 1/4 depending on who you ask. A dsm (im not sure of the acutal numbers, correct me if I am wrong) runs 0-60 in the mid 6's and quarter mile in low 15's high 14's. Regardless of who you ask looking at those numbers the 3000 pulls harder. If any car feels faster then it realy is its a DSM looking at those numbers. Can a DSM pull harder then a 3000? yea of course with the right mods and it can even smoke it in the quarter mile if you wanted because of the aftermarket support. Maybe you have felt a 3000 pull before and it wasn't that impressive. They are soo feaking hard to get dialed perfectly and if it isn't perfectly done its not always as impressive as it should be and on top of that the 3000 is built to go faster so its not gunna feel like a rocket at 60 cause you are barely tipping the ice berg. Both cars are fast no doubt and yea after market for DSM's are cheeper and more abundant but that doesn't take away from how cool the 3000 is. Specialy when you can go fast in style. Something a DSM can't quite match a 3000.

Well I can say that I like both cars. My best friend has a very modded 91 VR4 and we have fun all the time. The local 3S club sort of adopted me as well LOL. Each car has its ups and downs. I dont compare them because to me they are just too different in their overall feel to do so. Why would you want to compare a 4 cylinder single turbo car to a 6 cylinder twin turbo car. We work on each others cars all the time and there is a lot of things that are different in both cars. It is made by the same company but its just not something to compare 1 v 1. I like his car and he likes mine so to each his own. Would i Trade my car for his.. not really .. would he trade his for mine.. nope. If I really wanted a VR4 I would have bought one. Reminds me of comparing a Camaro to a Corvette .. same company .. but just different feel for the cars.

Agreed...you don't see camaro guys nocking vette guys and the only vette guys that nock camaro guys are the stuck up ones
