New head gasket better than Cometic!

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Jegs.com sells them for $89.99

part#829-S91524 Mitsubishi 4G63 3.437'' Bore .043'' Thickness (the only thickness they keep in stock...all others are 1-2day order time)

To whoever asked, I got my HG for $75 through a friend at a local distributor. Although, $90 from jegs isn't bad at all.

Here's a few pics of mine installed on my block. I'll let you know how it all works out.

The only thing I'm somewhat concerned about is the lip it left on the timing side, it may interfere w/ the eng bracket or waterpump, maybe. The cometic or OEM didn't have the lip, I may have to grind it away, but we'll see.

SCE enlisted the services of renowned engine builder Kenny Duttweiler to test this revolutionary head gasket. We mounted Duttweiler's personal twin turbocharged 286 cu in Small Block Chevrolet on the dyno and proceeded to thrash it in an attempt to test the limits of the new head gasket. Over a 2 week period we made 52 dyno pulls developing over 1833 hp at 9300 rpm with a peak boost of 43psi.

The ICS Titan head gasket was installed without sealants, o-rings or
receiver grooves. Pressure transducers were mounted at the gasket and data sampling occurred at a rate of 120 times per second to confirm that there were no coolant or combustion leaks at any point in the tests.
A closer look at the numbers shows that the new ICS Titan head gasket sealed over 6.4 hp/cubic inch at an estimated 3300 psi cylinder pressure. We were as pleased with the performance of the new head gasket as we were impressed with the colossal horsepower of Kenny's "little" engine.

It will hold just fine...

The only better gasket costs about 2x as much... It has hollow nitrogen filled o-rings for fire rings and I'm not sure if it is available for the 4G63 yet.

I know a gasket that will hold 30+psi for you.

Its sold @ your local Autozone, its called a stock Felpro. Held for me all season, with no sprays, no sealants, just block-gasket-head. There is a little trick involved though.... :)

The Felpro is'nt as good as the OEM stock...

I have run 30+ on a stock hg with ARP's....

The SCE ICS and the new cometic nitrogen ring gasket which posibly not even out yet for anything but V8s are both bulletproof...

Why do you need to lower your CR?

9:1 comp pistons in a block I found to have been decked twice and a head that has been decked three times is a bit higher of a compression than I would like to run on 91 octane piss water. Once I get methanol injection I should be fine but even then it makes tunning hard because the car becomes so knock happy when adding timming.

The gasket WILL work out just fine...

If you can find it get E85 and fuel the car with that instead...

Right now I am considering selling my car and building something with a surplus aviation engine fueled by E85. :sneaky:

sweet! If we had e85 our here in cali then I would be buying that for sure 2.75 for 91 just isn't doing it anymore.

I have also not had a problem running my OEM composite gasket at 30psi with ARPs but for $90, I will give this HG a try when I pull the head in a few weeks. ;)

Who needs a ARP's?ROFL

You just need the "majic touch". Makes the stocker hold took 500whp and 425ft lbs until I pulled the motor for upgrades.

The head gasket that I just installed did not have a lip on the timing belt side like the one in your picture. I guess SCE has already recognized this problem and fixed it.

LOL

I know this. :shhh: Stockers have been tested to 35psi. :sneaky: ARPs though are cheaper than buying new stockers. :p

There is a big difference btw the 7 and 6 bolt head bolts... That little bit of diameter difference along with not being stretch bolts accounts for a lot.

I'm waiting on some feedback on how well this hg holds up.I wanna intall the SCE hg when i put on my race head

ok i need a new head gasket, its between this and the cometic. im decking the head. Are these holding up over time?

i'll stick to the gasket that has never failed us. Street car and race car alike NEVER FAILED once! That is all i need to know that i can count on Cometic everytime.

did you deck the block? some people are saying that they are having problems when they didnt deck the block.

also do you have the hp version in stock

if the motor has a lot of mileage on it you can expect there to be some kind of regular warping due to wear or if you are replacing the head gasket because another one popped, both of these cases would require decking. If not then a simple replacement works fine. I have not had an issue when neither of the two things listed above were factors.

I myself have always been someone to try out an item that has not been around a long while. A ginea pig if you will. I have always been like that. If the part works flawlessly for me, then thats great, and more people will folow. If the parts fails after a short while under no circumstance that it should have failed, I will let people know so they can stay away, plus I have the time, parts, knowledge to fix the problem if it fails.

I know the MLS gaskets have been around a long time, and that they are tried and true, but I have always been optimistic about new parts.
