New head gasket better than Cometic!

So...whats the verdict slackers??? :)

My head is off, and I am willing to try something new at this point. The cometic isn't cutting it.

Is this new SCE Titan HG working at high boost levels?

I just ordered an OEM composite and I am hoping it it will hold around 30psi. Apparently it has been pruven, lets prove it some more I guess.

I just want to hear that your guy's headgaskets aren't spewing coolant all over the place, and that your coolant isn't miraculously dissapearing.

Please, keep us posted.

So far I have about 2000 miles on the titan ICS head gasket. I am still tuning my setup but I managed to hit 24 PSI of boost and I ended up having 43 counts of knock and I have had no isues with the gasket at all. Knock is what killed my OEM mistu gasket. so far so good. I am working on getting my knock counts down and then I will push it harder.

Awesome. Take a look at your coolant level often (weekly) and let us know if it stays in the same place. Also keep an eye on your overflow bottle.

Good luck on the tuning process; one step at a time. :) :thumb:

So far I haven't noticed any coolant loss but I will keep a close eye on it. The one problem that I did have is new Blitz rad cap will spin loose and then I will loose coolant that way. Not sure why it is spinning loose. I bent the tabs tighter and it seems to fine now. I'm not sure that it has anything to do with the HG, I thing it's the rad cap.

What kind of issues are you having? How much boost were you running? Do you have ARP headstuds?

So far my Cometic is holding up. The motor has seen 23 psi of boost regularly this past month. With all the HG trouble I've read about on this forum, I feel lucky.

yeah arps, torqued to 95lbs after 2 heat cycles.25psi it likes to push it,but i just pulled the head and redid it all,and copper sprayed it,also im putting in a new radiator to replace my stocker which is very old :notgood: so we shall see

For those of you that are running, or have ran this HG, I'm looking for an update on how its been holding up for you.

However, Looks like you've got another ginea pig. I just got my SCE ICS Titan HG, along w/ a new set of ARP's, and will be putting it to the test. I got mine brand new for $75 shipped.

Here's a few pics of those that are interested. God I hope it works well!

Dan, please let us know how it works out for you. I don't need to replace my headgasket but if I do i might entertain the thought of using that gasket.
Zach, I will post on how it works out in the spring when I get the car running. My Cometic was not doing it for me. It had ARP's but it didn't like the occasional creep to 28 psi. It started pushing coolant/ oil from #4 cylinder. I'm going with an all new setup this season and I'm willing to give it a shot. I hope it turns out good. I'm also putting in new ARP's.

Pray for the gasket. I found out that FFWD uses this gasket as the stardart selection for all there INJUN rebuilds now, so thats good info to hear!

We have 5 brand new ones sitting on our bench. We have made 630awhp with ours. We are going to a GT-42 here next month and I am sure it will hold up. The only ones we have ever had issues with failing were Cometics. We had two fail. Mitsubishi 4 layers have held, HKS's have held, and the SCE's have held.

Our SCE has held to 42psi with the SCM61. The SCE's are nice, we will be running on when we drop our aluminum rod 6 bolt motor in and really see what the GT-42 is made of.

That's what really made me consider this gasket as an option is when I went to their site to look at prices on heads and saw that they were praising this gasket I figured it had to be decent.

One word of caution. These gaskets may not be reusable in most cases. The little orange o-rings either come off or peel off when you remove the head. They o-rings also may stick to the block and head during assembly and may peel off here as well. If these come off the gasket cannot be used/reused. They will leak in these areas. We found out when we tried to start and noticed some weaping around the edge of the head. We noticed this after we had a timing belt tear some teeth and had to pull the head off. When we rebuilt the head we had this happen. Other than that, no complaints guys.

Just a word of advice, when you install your Titan ICS be aware that you might have to trim a small part of the gasket on the timing belt side to clear the backing plate for the timing belt. I used a belt sander to remove about 1/8" of material. The material to be removed hangs over the block and by sanding on this will in no way affect the sealing surface. The early released gaskets needed to be trimmed, however I was told that SCE were working on this. I just thought that I would throw this out to advise that it might have to be done.

Wickedtsi, you are the original thread starter, how is this gasket working out? Is it still holind fine? How many miles? Detail, please.

this gasket is looking good to me,might be buying one to put on my g4cs setup, cometic has seemed to be working, but im going to a new head/cam combo in the spring,so what better time to swap it :thumb:

I had to modify the exhaust manifold gasket they sent me too. Cant complain though. Everything is holding good.

Was there a reason why the gasket had to be modified? Faulty production or a custom application? I would think a good quality gasket shouldn't have to be trimmed.

any updates?

I have a new shortblock coming within the next 3 weeks or so. Just wondering if any of you guys have any coolant dissapearing with these bad boys??

Our SCE has held to 42psi with the SCM61.

That is what I was needing to hear. My motor is at the shop still, and I did go with the one that runs the o-ringed block. This summer when done I was thinking about turning it up to 45psi as they say these gaskets will hold. A blown gasket dont bother me, I just try to stray from trashing a motor though. But Ill bump the thread, and ask for updates???

Where did you find an ICS Titan for 75 bucks?? They're 130 direct form SCE and 140 from ffwd.
