On there site under the part number you gave me it says that the gasket has a bore size of 87.3mm. When I was looking into an Cometic I was told to go with 87mm for the 2.4L block and 86mm for the 2.0L block. Also the part number you gave me is for the SCE self sealing gasket, not the ICS gasket? What kind of boost have you taken your car too?

Darren at Fast Forward Connection told me that you can use a HG that is +.060 over and it will fit all bore sizes. That's all they do is build motors, so I trust him on that. The Ics is the self sealing gasket with the stainless o-ring and the RTV around each coolant and oil port. I just got mine running, have not put it through it's paces. Darren told me I would have no problem with 30 psi.

The cometic can handle 30 Psi so I am hoping that this can handle a few Psi more.

So then since it has an 87.xx mm bore I should be able to use this on a 2.4L block correct?

Yeah you won't have any problem.

Is it better to go with a thicker on thinner head gasket? And why?

Stock thickness is .054", I would try to stay around that clearance. If you have to shave the head off .005" then you should think about going with the next thicker HG. The biggest thing that your are concerned with is smacking you pistons against your valves (usually happens at high RPM) If you go thicker you will loose some compression but it's more safe. If you were to go to a .080" HG you would only drop about .05 on your compression ratio per cylinder. I am running a .064" which is the most popular thickness to run.

If i remember correctly, stock thickness is 1mm compressed. I am running the HKS 1mm gasket. Big bucks but i went through the whole summer running 28 - 30psi & 100 shot with no issues.

At $175 and up it will be pretty difficult for FelPro to convince people that it is better than Mitsu MLS or CometicHP, don’t you think?

Or for that matter, HSK $225 hg :).

But, if they come out with something that allows you to run some silly boost without blowing HGs, they might be onto something. But I would not want to be the first one with one of those HGs, even if they gave one to me for free :p

I decided to take a look at the FelPro gasket and it sure looks like a pretty good gasket, maybe even better than the Mitsu and it might be the last resort before O-ringing.
Anybody else?

My cometic HP gasket let go after about 6 months. And i ordered another one for it. I didnt use copper spray the first time. Does anyone have a defenate yes or no on copper spray and the cometic?

What about using a solid copper gasket; like an SCE gasket? Then you could o-ring the block and spray a few coats of Hylomar on each side of the gasket. Alot of my high compression, 1000+ HP customers do this with much success. Just an idea - has any DSMers tried this?

I was blowing stock headgaskets on my mild rebuild so a buddy of mine (who had the 8th fastest AWD in the US at the time) told me to use a steel HG with Hylomar. Worked like a charm. I'm wondering why more DSM guys don't use Hylomar.
