i thought someone said that pte didnt have any ready yet? obviously they do. anywho, i ordered my SBR-GT12 the other day and got a free TSO4 polished compressor housing on it :) so im happy. so, im guessing that all the pte's are ready to go?...or are they still working on them?

Anyone know the A/R of the PTE turbine housings. Can we order .48 or .63?

And does the BR500 or PTE use the stage III turbine (76 trim)?

Thanks

jet, did you get your turbo yet? please keep us updated as im most likely going with a pte turbo.

PTE told me turbo's are at Garrett being tested for actual A/R etc. The ones being released now are 7.5 cm2. I'm guessing .54 maybe? Later they will relase 6.5 cm versions. I believe the final A/R depends on the wheel used too.

hmm.. i was just browsing the turbo parts on BR's page.. and yes the BR20G is expensive.. couple bills more than those new BR500 n BR580..

im looking for a pretty much bolt on turbo that has a lot of potential (no t28).. basically bolts right up on a 2G.. without the use of any kind of 2G install kit.. are the BR500 n BR580 wat ive been waiting for? on the page it says

This turbocharger will bolt directly to a Mitsubishi exhaust manifold negating the need for any special manifolds or adapter plates. The flange design has been developed to allow the compressor housing to clear the water pipe and engine block as well.

they dont really say much about the turbo specs or application (1g/2g and whats needed).. so frustrating finding the right snail..

I got my turbo, you can see a couple of pic's at

It looks really nice! The thing is very big. The only problem is that you will need to weld a 90 degree outlet on the compressor outlet. Like they do for 2g's. Either that or you need a slimline fan and clock the housing a tad. The turbo is so big that the compressor is close to the motor mount. Not a very big deal. The elbow is $23.

Nope, that won't work either. You need a tight radius one. You actually need to cut off the end of the compressor outlet (about 1" where the line is for attaching the hose) and weld on the elbow. As it comes the outlet is only 2" away from the motor mount on a 1g. The engine is going to rock back and forth too, so I want over 1" of clearance.

I appologize, I forgot to mention that we had to use a slim style fan. You could always ditch the a/c fan and move the cooling fan over, but we couldn't do that with our intercooler set up.

On a side note, we were able to get the car tuned a bit better. This turbo is great, but may not be the best turbo for the street. There are quite a few other wheel combinations for this turbo. IM me or email me off the list for more info. [email protected]

I noticed on the BR website it says that the 580 spools about 500 rpms faster than the BR-57. My god, I don't even want to know what the BR-57 spooled at! So I am assuming the BR500 (which is more than enough for most people) should have a descent spool to it? I'm really leaning toward this baby because of the price and the internal gate. How well would the internal gate work on the 500? Everyone keeps telling me to go 20G because it is proven but since this is pretty much a full Garret turbo, they have proven themselves time and time again. There is a reason no one who has a race DSM really uses a Mitsu turbo :) Would it be safe to say that this turbo is already proven, but now it is a bolt-on affair? How would this turbo vary from an L2? (50trim PTE turbo) I know the exhaust housings would be different, but how much would that affect spool and power output characteristics? I have too many damn questions, I guess I should just call up Buschur and ask them even know I know they are pointing everyone to their 1300 20G now.

The turbo bolts right on using the BR-57 line kit. As far as 2g, you would have to use a 2g install kit just like any mits turbo. I can't stress this point enough, there is NO boost creep with the internal gate as long as your using a hi-flow exhaust set up. I just bought another one of these turbos from Slow Boy Racing in a 50 trim for my street car. That bad boy will spool quite a bit quicker then the BR580 which gets full boost around 4k r's. The turbo is not water cooled, so you'll have to block off the water pipe, which is quite easy and the BR-57 line kit comes with all of the parts to do it. Any other ?'s, just ask.

This turbo sounds really nice. I have a Big16g from Mike and I got a REALLY good price on it. I am debating now between the 20G that he sells for the 2G for $880(including an 34mm flapper and porting!), or the 50 trim from him. How much did you pay for that 50 trim from Mike? The shop here in town gives me his turbos at cost and I can't find these new turbos on his website. So you are saying with a ported setup and 3" setup which I have, this turbo should definitely spool around 3500-4k? From what I read, it will put out 500 hp too? My decision is getting a lot harder, took me 4 months to decide on the Big16g heh.

Give Mike a call. I paid $995.00 +$70.00 for install kit. He doesn't have the turbos yet, but should have them in a few weeks. Give him a call and he can get you all of the info.

PTE mentiuoned that they would soon be offering a T04B compressor housing which would give more clearance at little sacrifice in top end flow. I assume it would also spool a bit quicker.

Jet, I'm assuming the issues you're having have to do with the fact that you have a top to bottom intercooler, instead of a side to side?

....Still waiting for my BR580 to show up :D ....,

No, the problem will arise with any big turbo. The problem is that the front motor mount is in the way. You either need to put the elbow on or get a slimline fan for the pass side. Red's have the same problem. The only difference with mine being top to bottom is that I have to go 90 degrees to the pass side where others will have to go 90 degrees to the drivers side.

Anyone manage to install one of these internally gated PTE turbo's on a 1G and able to keep the stock main fan? Can it but cut up enough to do so?

Also, to connect the new oil feed line to the oil filter assemby, do you have to drop the centermember or crossmember to get access to the bolt on the oil filter assembly, or anything else for that matter?

Yeah, On a true TO4E garret setup you actually hafta cut a section out of that mount.....at least my 60-1 did.

Yes it does. You must use a slimline fan though. The WG actuator will hit the stock fan. Other than that you have to get a garrett install kit and you are set. I love my turbo, 20 psi by 3700 RPM (BR500).
