Anyone have any idea why my transmission blew after a simple test drive?!

I did a 2000 dodge neon transmission swap on my 420a because my original transmission was having problems shifting so I took the route of doing the swap, said might as well since I originally planned on changing the transmission. I got a 2000 dodge neon but the only problem I didn’t realize was it was cable, mine is hydraulic… but I did the bell housing swap because I was told by someone on here that it’s possible and works so I did and we’ll.. this happened LOL.

I changed the fluid, I had my mechanic look at the shifter cables and everything was good, it seemed to be the syncros. Now I’m going to get a 2001-2005 dodge neon transmission so it’s just unbolt tranny and bolt on the other transmission with no problem because it’s hydraulic. It should bolt right up correct? I shouldn’t have to worry about running into this problem again right? Any thoughts anyone? Also I kept it under 3.5k rpms during the test drive so I didn’t do anything to purposely blow it up, which is why I’m so confused.

If the transmission is from a late 2000 or newer neon you will not have to swap the bellhousing. All PT cruisers with manual transmissions will also work in 95-99 N/T Eclipses and all are hydraulic clutches

Unless you did something wrong the bellhousing would not have cause the transmission to blow a hole in the case. I've swapped several myself and others have done it as well. If I had to guess just from the picture it looks like something got inside the case or fell out of place when you had it apart and got between the ring gear and transmission case and busted it out.

That’s what I came here to figure out because I have no clue.. LOL
The best way to tell is to drop the trans and separate the belhousing to see what happened... I'm sure it will be obvious what happened. I can post a pic of what it should internally look like since I'm about to pop mine apart again to chase a bearing issue.

Will do, gonna check it out sometime this week, I’ll keep you updated on what the inside looks like.
