Hi guys,
I am relatively in tune with everything DSM related but am in need of some help.

BEFORE YOU READ FURTHER......I DONT CARE THAT I CAN JUST GET A 2.0 CAR TO BEGIN WITH AND SELL MY CAR, THATS NOT WHAT I WANT TO DO. BEEN THROUGH TO MUCH WITH THIS CAR TO SELL IT AND START NEW, PLUS IT WILL BE A PROJECT FOR THE SUMMER.

I have a 1993 Eagle Talon with the 4g37 1.8l engine. I really want a 2.0l to work with. I have access to many Dodge Neons and their engines at my local junk yard. Everyone pulls the DSM's engines but ignore the Neons. I know I can get one with good miles on it. As far as I know the engine is basicly the same as a 4g63. My question is, are there any particular years that work better than others and will I need a new ECU or can I use my 1.8l one, or get one out of a 4g63 DSM? I am not up on Dodges changes in their vehicles.

Part two: I want to be able to pull at least 210 hp out of it with out a turbo. What is the best way to get there with the Neon engine? Again, I dont want a response of just turbo it......thats not what I want to do.

I have my own idea on this but want some feedback and to make sure I dont make any mistakes with the engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :talon:

Umm.. well. To start, the N/T 2Gs have the engine and tranny on opposite sides of the engine compartment. So that will cause many problems if you want to do the swap.

Hahn Racecraft makes turbo kits for the 420A. But since you don't want a turbo kit... you'll probably have to rebuild the motor with higher compression and stronger rods, get some headers, a CAI, cams, port the head, lightened pulleys and flywheel... The 420A only puts out about 140HP stock, so to squeeze out 70 HP more you'll have to do some serious modifications. Maybe nitrous?

You're going to need to do pretty much everything that the 2G N/T's have to do to preform a 4G63 swap, except reversed. This means pretty much a completely new front end. You'll need the motor, transmission, custom motor mounts, sub-frame, suspension, etc. You'll also need to redo a lot of the electrical. Sorry I don't know any specifics I'm just trying to help you realize how big of a "project" this is going to be, both time and price-wise. From what I've read it seems that a N/T 4G63 swap would be easier.

The 420A swap is not really practical... especially with your goals. If you read through the N/T forum you might find someone who has a guide for you though. There are a lot of threads dealing with all kinds of swaps in there.

Yeah I didnt realise that the Neons only had the 420a in them. I thought they had at some point, a version of the 4g63. I'm just going to forget about the Neon swap altogether then. I might as well rebuild my 4g37 and turbo it. It would be easier and take less money than to swap in the 420a LOL!. I'll just look around and see what I can get as far as a 4g63 and tranny. I was planning on rebuilding the engine with new pistons and rods anyway to help meet my goal. I dont have anything against turbos but would like to be able to reach the power of a GS-T without the T. The good thing about it though is that if I want a turbo later, I already would have forged pistons and everything in it. I would have to check and make sure my compression would be ok with the turbo though. What got me thinking on this is my friend just bought a supercharger for his 2001 Acura RSX and I would love to say I can meet your car but mines NA. Thats besides the fact that I wanted to do the 2.0l swap for a while now. So if I go with a 4g63, what do I have to do about ECU's? I know Hondas have Hondata and can reprogram their ECU's can anything like that be done on my current ECU? And.....as far as the tranny goes, do I have to replace any of the parts with better ones like the master and slave cylinders? I would be looking at getting a performance tranny like one made by Shep or somewhere along those lines. Speaking of that, anyone know the web address for Shep? I cant find it. If I sound retarded...its because its 4 am here LOL! I need sleep..........:talon:

sheps here and here for trannys

and but i dont think you are going to need a shep tranny, but if you are going to make a 1.8T, go to here there is a guy and a business that is going to make manifolds with a T3 adapter plate... and there is a whole section on 1.8T... as for the 2.0 swap, the 63 is almost a bolt in affair, but if you were to do this, i would have another car to get all the parts from, taht way you coudl strip the engine bay of the 1.8 and then just transfer everything to the shell of the 1.8, and you will need the new ecu, so if you can find a parts car that has been wrecked on a side or the rear that would be good...
