Neglected 95 Eclipse GSX nostalgia build

Cleaning up a 95 eclipse gsx after being neglected for some years.

I'll have to look at the part number when I get home but they had the mitsubishi bag and number. I even bought ones that were in a generic bag and sure enough they all are the same but definitely are not oem. I for sure do not want to drill the holes bigger just to fit the Chinese clips.
Do you have a picture of what you bought by any chance?

I just ordered a set that are actually from China but they look right, very odd. The skinny neck part of the clip looks right versus what I keep getting. They don't stay in the holder on the door caps like the actual oem ones do.

I figured it out if you order the ones with the long point and just cut that off they fit perfect. They went on with no problems and none of them broke. I feel like this should have never been a problem. I'm just happy it worked.

It's hard to tell from the picture but yours looks alot more rounded. The ones that I got had zero give, I couldn't even pop one into the hole by itself. If yours work you'll definitely have to let me know where you got them.
I'm just thankful the clips exploded before the door cap did.

Now that I have the car exactly how I want it, I'll start getting into tuning as the days get nicer. I won't really have many updates since the car is pretty much done now, and nobody cares if a guy hooks up the seat belts or puts on some weather stripping. That being said.

This build started as sort of a restoration build, I was hoping to bring it back to its former glory and build. Of course that was until nostalgia hit me along the way. As time goes on i get even more attached to what was once a huge part of my teen years.
In 2010 i had a 96 eclipse rs, i used to race and my friends and i would all laugh when i lost. That didnt bother me at all, i still absolutely loved and took care of that car. I remember when I first got the eclipse, not even a week later the water pump exploded on the highway coming home from school. The guy we got it from actually took it back and fixed it for us, which was absolutely solid and ill never forget that. I hated driving anything other than my eclipse. It got great gas mileage and the friends and I would all pile in like a clown car whenever we went anywhere. I owned that car from 2010 to 2014, and then eventually sold it to a guy from texas. I tried tracking down that guy to get it back but failed. Anyways I could literally go on for actual hours with stories about the 2 most important cars of my lifetime.
Rest easy old friends.

A little update on the door cap clips. I ordered them from China, which took a month to get but they fit perfect. The door cap popped right on with zero breaking. Like I said in one of my other posts you just have to cut the tip off and they work like oem.

A little update on the car and a little bit of a rant. I got new injectors for the car (fic 1000s) with the plug and Play adapters. I don't even know why they sell them when they don't work, the injectors don't sit straight and have to be turned. After there turned now the factory harness doesn't even reach??? So why pay extra for something that doesn't work? I couldn't find anything about them not fitting properly or anything like that, so I took the 50/50 chance.

On the plus side I am in the process of going speed density. I was out last Friday doing remote tuning and let's just say alot of things were going good and bad all at once.
Good news is the car held together and was starting to make some power.
Bad news the car was severely low on gas and actually died on the side of the road (I was not very far from home). To top that off my transfercase was leaking everywhere, which is the only thing that was leaking so I'm not to upset about that.
The next big issue was my o2 sensor kept flat lining so we tried another new one and that did the same thing. That will be for another day.
It was definitely a Rollercoaster of emotions but I was still super happy. It was the first drive out and it shifted amazing and drove pretty darn good for having no alignment. All in all its still a work in progress but I love that I'm on to the tuning part of it instead of body work. The guy I have remote tuning is from here on the forums, and he's crazy smart with this stuff so I've been taking pretty much all of his advice. I couldn't be happier!

I pretty much have the car exactly how I want it as far as how it's going to be tuned. I switched to speed density and made myself a little maf delete adapter that turned out pretty good. I'm just waiting for the transfer case to get here so I can fully button up everything underneath.

I decided to spend a little more money on a dash mat and for what I paid I'm pretty happy with it. I still need to tape it down some but overall I'm way happier with this one than the other one I bought.

We just got hit with 12 inches of snow, so I'm back to waiting a couple more weeks to take the car out and tune again. I'm sort of thankful for all the bad weather, because it pushes me to really perfect everything before just sending it.

On my car, there are leftover tape marks from a dash pad that I can’t get off. I’m honestly a bit surprised to see someone putting one on a DSM at this point.

Trust me I was really against it but my dash is so warped and has bad bubbling so this was my only option. My last option is to swap my black dash but that's from an rs, so ill have to yank all the wiring and im not up for that quite yet.

The idle is awesome with them. I should have just went with the 1200cc but with what I have it was a little overkill. I also wanted my idle to be somewhat decent. I honestly should have went that route so I wouldn't have had to cut up my harness, but I had no idea even with the adapters it wasn't going to work. I made some poor decisions but I definitely learned from it.

This is the first time out of all of these cars I've owned, I'm actually trying to make some power with so it's sort of a learning thing for me. I am happy so far with everything. Next weekend hopefully it'll be back to good weather so I can get this thing fully tuned.

That’s fair. A super clean dash is so worth it, I’d wait until you have time to put the car down and then go for it.

Today I finally hooked up my catch can the way others said to do it. I ended up making my own steel plug to block off the other side but it's still hooked up and looks factory.

I also got the car leveled out how I want, along with the rear camber adjusters in so everything sits straight. I'll have to still get it to the shop and align it. So far I'm very happy with everything.

The car is super dusty from sitting. I just noticed that from taking that picture.

Today I drove about 100 miles and man it felt good. I didn't get into boost at all but it was still very enjoyable to finally just cruise around. It felt even better when nothing broke and the car is actually fully complete.
Not even a nasty transfer case leak could bring me down. I already ordered a new yoke to fix that.

HA! That was me today too (but on a shorter cruise) so I can relate. Finally got all my issues solved and time to get back to tuning...except for this coolant seeping from the upper end of the the lower radiator hose. Congrats on a successful cruise 😁

Let's go!! Alot of successful cruises tonight, man am I pumped! I'll take little leaks and still call it a win any day. I'm just happy the first real actual long cruise didn't Leave me stranded.

I'm supposed to have someone tune tomorrow so I'll have to keep the transfer case topped off for now.

I got the car tuned tonight and man does it rip. I'm super happy with it aside from my nasty leak I still need to address. 19 pounds was the safe limit on 91, I couldn't be more happy.
The auto I have feels a little clunky but it seems to be handling it fine. Only time will tell how it holds up.
I'm still trying to iron out everything else since the car was sitting for years. Overall I'm pumped!

Man that came out immaculate!!! Very nice! I haven't been in the thread for a while but what turbo are you running on it? We were about to upgrade injectors and turbo and intercooler but the HG blew in the same spot between cylinders 2 and 3 so this time we are gonna the head resurfaced. Hopefully that fixes our issue and the block doesn't need done as well. Are you planning to do some track time?

Thanks! It did come out alot better than I thought to be honest.
I'm using an old 20g turbo that i actually like alot. I'm happy with it for sure. It has some lag to it but that doesn't bother ne to much.
I think it'd be fun to see what numbers it would put down. Otherwise mainly just a street ripper.
