Alright so i have a 99 GS and recently (couple months ago) got a new exhaust.
I didnt really know what i was lookin for at the time so i just got my stock resonater and muffler taken off and replaced with 2 1/4" straight pipes and a 3 1/2" tip...its ####in loud :O
Which is kinda what i was lookin for but..its TOO loud and kinda sounds shitty at higher RPMs.
So, what can I do for this?
Is there any exhaust silencers that i could buy or would i be better off with getting a catback muffler. Idk for some reason id like a 4" tip if i got a muffler..LOL just my style i guess.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Heres a couple pics if anyones interested :p

:thumb: exhaust looks good. They do make resonators and expansion chambers and mufflers that you could spend prob 100 bucks on and it would sound good but not ear splitting. What you have looks quality you just need to add something to keep the noise down. Look into a magnaflow muffler or something to that degree get the flanges welded on bolt her up and enjoy. I would not buy a new exhaust if i was sitting where you are what you have looks good.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah ill look into getting a muffler. Im not trying to go crazy and get some expensive ass muffler LOL. How are those ebay ones? I found one for like $50 :p LOL its one of those cheap ebay brands but hey, if itll make my car at least somewhat less deafening and will look good, im down haha.

It says it should fit the gsx/gst/gs but then it says only fits turbod cars? LOL idk..im still looking though. If anyone comes across an pretty decent muffler for $100 or under thatd be great.

I'd say anything would be better than what you have now. It looks like whoever made your exhaust system knew how to line things up, but the pipes are press-bent and mandrel-bent tubing will yield you higher performance gains. Most commercially available exhaust systems (even eBay exhausts) use mandrel-bent tubing.

the gs-t version will fit a n/t car...the catbacks all line up the same...a gsx however will not

spend a little more and get a 2.5" tsudo catback. Better than just getting a muffler and having to rig it up retardedly or have to take it to an exhaust shop to weld it on to your current piping. They're decent quality and sound good too (at least the 3" does on mine with a turbo)

Well im not the best for doing my own exhaust so im probably gonna be taking it to a local shop who initially did my exhaust. But i was wondering, my piping is 2 1/4" and most of the mufflers ive been checking out (including the tsudo) have either a 3" inlet or some have a 2.5". Does inlet size matter or would i have to match it up to my piping? Or if flanges are welded on does this not matter? Thanks

If you are going ebay $50 bucks for a muffler is pretty costly..... i mean your non turbod and all so just get a can that you like.. doesnt sound like you are going for performance so just get a new muffler... besides i bought a different one and was dirt cheap, shouldnt cost more then 30 shipped.

i think to best answer your question you have to answer mine. What are your goals, do you just want something that looks nice? Something quieter? Something for performance? Or something that matches 2 or 3 of the above? Different answers will follow for what you choose =P

Well my goals when i first bought the car was all performance and some stuff for looks. But i realized i wont be getting TOO much performance with a non turbo car :p
So my goals for exhaust are mainly to make it a bit quiter than it is now. Like someone said earlier, something thats not gonna kill my ears everytime i really step on the gas.
So until i cough up some money for a new car, or some real performance for this, ill be taking the cheap route LOL.

EDIT:
Yeah i think the way im going now im just going for a nice sound. Ill worry about performance later. Im looking for the cheapest possible muffler that would actually look/sound decent. Im thinking one of these two. Really the only two i found on ebay. Ill try some other sites too.

eww 4-1 not 4-2-1, beyond that it looks like a really decent deal. As for performance, what ya do is research it, its wasted money to buy one to quiet it down then a few months down the road redo it for a better one.

If you are insistant on changing exhausts go 2.5inch for all more 3inch for forced air induction.

Tryed to remember this one wesbites where they bragged about how quiet there exhausts where, there slogan was like "it don't have to be loud to be powerful" or something like that... damn if only i could remember the name.

"Hey I was actually thinking about doing just what you did (running a sriaght pipe instead of exhaust) Are you running a cat or no?"

Yeah im still running a cat, havent gotten around to getting it off yet. All i did was replace the resonator and stock muffler with 2 1/4' piping and a tip.

yay check out this fast 0-60 run. would have been better if i made it to 60 before i ran outta street but at least yous can hear my exhaust...kinda, it was taken on a cell phone so yeah

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://s528.photobucket.com/flash/player.swf?file=http://vid528.photobucket.com/albums/dd329/theguy6661/0731092317.flv"></embed>

i personally dont hear any problem with your exhaust =P. It isnt that loud until you hit about 4k, which is pretty much haulin balls, so as long as you keep it daily driving, it will sound like just that, could also be becuase it was takin on a cell phone that it isnt that bad though.

Wow, it sounds like a pissed off honduh :coy:

As others have mentioned, if you're looking for something inexpensive but still good quality, MANY of us have had awesome luck with the Tsudo exhausts on ebay

Tsudo exhaust listings

Anything listed for an NT is 2.5" piping, and the GST listings are 3" piping.

UPDATE!
So I got the muffler today in the mail and went right away to get it installed. It sounds great for an ebay muffler too :p I was suprised. Heres some pics if anyones interested. Silencer is now out btw. That thing was a bi*** to take out for some reason OMG
