Need some advice... :(

An update. Shop re-confirmed spark, fuel and tested injector pulse and all came back good. They said they are going to rip out the safc and see if that changes anything symptom wise, so you guys may be right on the money. Also ordered some continental gt's for the talon, ill shoot some pics when I go see them. I'll give updates once I get off the horn with the shop.

Also got a line on a guy who does body work and paint, so hopefully come spring the car will have trunk deck holes filled, dents filled, and a fresh coat of wildberry pearl paint :D

Do they have some spare 450's laying around to throw in? I sure hope they aren't doing that with the 650's still in there.

Just a small one as their shop is slammed right now due to the holidays and I don't need the car finished until mid January.. they removed the safc and found no difference in the no start. So they are re wiring it into place and double checking every ground in the car just to be positive. But that's all I've heard.

the pop sound may be that the engine is firing out of time . recheck your firing order

Small update... They are removing the safc and inspecting the wiring behind the radio, they think a wire or two got crossed, which is entirely possible as it is a maze of wiring back there. Hope to hear some more in the next week or so.

Yea I can honestly say all of the searching did not even scratch the surface. This is seeming more and more like an electrical issue than mechanical. Sure is a huge pita... Car has been down for 5 months already LOL

Well got word back from the shop today. Turns out that the intake side cam gear had a tiny portion of it bent inwards toward the center of the camshaft which was just enough to strike the Cam Angle sensor and snapped it in half. Then they went on to find out that the ground wire from the engine block to the firewall was corroded so badly that it held a 93 ohm resistance. Then the last thing they found was that the Idle Sensor on the other side of the intake manifold had 5 broken wires on it which I had missed before when I looked at it. Here are some pics...

Should be done sometime next week. :hellyeah:

If this is the ISC that you're referring to, I had pointed out that someone had "repaired" what looked like all of those wires and that you should take it apart to make sure all the connections were good (see post #61).

Glad to hear the figured out the problem (and I really hope that's all). But that ladies and gents is why the 2ga CAS sucks!! You should consider switching to a 2gb unit and not having them replace that one. Think of it something happens to it again - you've got to do a timing belt job just to get it off.

Yea, we saw the taped up leads, which i remember you pointing out. The wires were pretty much snapped off at the sensor head against the block which is a huge pain in the ass. So they are just going to order a new cam gear and ISC, and Timing belt from mitsu and hopefully have it together along with some new grounds and power cables sometime early next week. The tech there had a spare 2g CAS laying around from his previous build on his 1g so he was gonna test it and throw it on, if its no good then well just order a new one. Thinking back on it, the CAS we would have never found unless we actually had dropped the T-belt, cam gear, etc. Thanks for all the support guys! None of us can figure out how the cam gear got damaged to the point it did (it wasnt even a big divot, was just enough to strike the sensor) So well replace the cam gear with a new one and see what happens.

Ill ask and see how much they would charge to relocate it to the opposite side of the motor. good thinking bri!

The one thing they'd have to check is if your intake cam is tapped at the opposite end of the cam gear. If it's not, they'd have to take it out, drill and tap it, rewire the plug...it could get kind of pricey. Or you could have them source a 2gb intake cam and just swap it out to make things easier. Up to you and how quickly you want them done and how you want the finished product to be.

You shouldn't need a new ISC sensor, but instead maybe just a new plug wired in. Unless they tested the ISC and it's bad as well.

Yea with the isc is just the pigtail they need so they can rewire and solder and heat shrink it in. But I may just go with the 2ga cas for now, just to get the car out of the shop. It's already costing me a ton of money just In diagnosing and in work time

Talon is up for inspection on Thursday. Due to the 3,400 miles I put on it, the shop is going to issue me an exemption cert. For emissions For it. Here's a list of what's getting replaced:

-timing belt (OEM replacement)
-balance shaft belt
-belt tensioners
-water pump
-rear brakes
-New tires

Then add on the vrsf fmic, coupled with a tial q50 recirc. Bov. Gonna be fun as hell when its done :)

Yea due to where it is on the 95s or the 2ga models, under the cam gear, there was no way in hell of finding this without taking the timing belt off and so fourth. I don't feel so bad about it being down for so long now, as the problem was not anything anyone would have guessed. But I appreciate all of the help and advice guys, always a pleasure :)

On a side note, it still remains a mystery as to what caused the dent in the cam gear rail, and ultimately the trashing of the sensor. Guess some things we are not meant to know.

Well, unfortunately I come back bearing more bad news... After all of those repairs, still wouldn't start. The shop did a leak down and compression test, found it had a 90% leakage on cylinders 1 and 2. Turns out when the hose blew it slightly warped the head ( not by much apparently) and also ruined the exhaust valves on those cylinders. So now the head is off at a machine shop to be decked, New valve seals are on order, and a new greddy bov diaphragm is on its way from extreme psi (old one blew out apparently, so its getting a new one) as well as a new multilayer head gasket (one on there was OEM and had 145k+ on it). So when all is said and done, ALL maintenance will be completed, and should be running like a champ with the new 20g, ss tubular manifold and other goodies that have been on it. When they told me this, I've never wanted to throw a block of c4 into the car and run so much in my life. This thing better blow my mind when its done...

They think they are. They did a 100% inspection on the motor, internals look good, bearings are good. So this should be it. Should be done sometime early next week. So I'm hopeful. :/

Also, the broken cas and bent cam gear would have sabotaged it anyway, so I'm glad they caught that first in a sense.
