Right now i have my 97gst in peices in my garage. it spun a rod bearing or 2 and now needs a obvious rebuild. the head is fine. my question is what you guys think i should do. i could A) send the block to get machined and reuse it(not to crazy about that). B) Buy a 7bolt bottom end and bolt on head. C) Buy a 1g head and block and do the 1g swap(what im thinking i will do). what do i need to do the 1g swap that will not bolt up to the 1g motor from my 2g? im not looking to go for alot of hp, i already did that with my last gst and i bought this car basically for my girlfreind to drive and to have alittle speed and fun for me. this car will get some basic mods like 16g, bov, fmic and some other litttle things but nothing for draggin or anything. i want the best solution that will not casue her alot of problems and will not cost me a huge amount of money.

I would do a 6 bolt swap. Do a search to find out what you need to complete it.

approx.....how much the labor going to be? 1g to 2g swap? Do you know anyone in Maryland can do this?

Im actually about to start a 6-bolt swap this week, I was planning on using the 1g head but is it easier to just use the 7-bolt head? what are the pros and cons of using a 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block?

There have been a few descusions on this one being the random misfire DTC when rewiring the 1g CAS into a 2g. Also that the 2g head flows just as good as a 1g head. Or that you loose a little bottom end with the 1g head but gain topend over the 2g. There are a couple of other things that I really can't think of right now.

2g head smaller ports=more velocity, yes it will lose out a little to the 1g head top end, but with a 2g head there is more material to work with as far as machining goes. :talon:

decided to just get a 7 bolt block based on laziness and the fact that im not going to be ading alot of hp. only question is how to get the transmission removed from the block. All the blots are out but the 3 trans mounts are still on. How do i get it diconnected to pull the engine?

i would get the 6 bolt, have you ever heard of crankwalk? you might wanna look into it cause if you keep that 7 bolt you might get crankwalk. thats why im going with a 6 bolt swap instead of rebuilding my 7 bolt. go to vfaq.com to look up on crankwalk.

110K miles on my stock 7bolt....hmmm and its a 97 guess i'm really beating the odds.
