Ok guy's, Im your average Honda lover, I love everything made by the sweet company. But I'am totally thinking about selling my teg and looking for a TSi, I have always wanted one, my father used to have one when i was 6, It was a TSi FWD, and i remember it was quick. But anyways, I might be looking into getting one in a couple of months when i get the teg fixed and sell it. What am I looking forward to spend on an AWD TSi? 5spd of course. The year I am most wanting is the 95 model. I think their awesome. I was told on H-I I was moving to the darkside....and im totally fine with that. N-E way, could you guys help me out, what are pro's and cons of the 91 model and 95 model. (TSi AWD)

The main difference is that a 95 has a 7 bolt which is most likely to get crank walk instead of a 91 which is a 6 bolt. But the 2g's do have a little bit better tranny then the 1g's.

 :toobad: another way to spread the DSM crankwalk legend around.. yes, crankwalk happens more often to 7 bolts, but they ALSO happen to 6 bolts. This occurance can also happen to ANY car for that matter..

get a 95 :thumb: it's EPROM and has the body styling of the 2g.

oh, if you'll be staying with us.. make sure you start typing like a normal person.. or the grammar nazi's will come to get ya :tease: you'll know what i'm talking about sure enough.. cough cough.. DEFIANT! LEET! haha

Yeah...........perhaps. But the 1g can never compare with the sweet and pure Sex design of the 2g. :thumb:

I think im going too look for a 90-91 AWD TSi.

Just thought I'd give you some quick honda/dsm differences. Something you'll notice over on umm.. "our side" is that people typically work harder at making more power, and less at stripping the car to under 2000 lbs. DSMs are not light. You put 200hp motor in a 93 civic hatch, you're running 12s. These cars come stock with 200 hp. Depending on what your goals are for speed/handling/daily comfort, there are a lot of options out there for you.

For the year/model. Check out prices around you. Check out the differences between the body styles, and figure out which one you like best, 1ga, 1gb, 2ga or 2gb. Also figure out whether you like the eclipse or talon trim. Prices can range from under 1000 for a beat on, but fixable 90 TSI, to sometimes more than 20k for a built 99 GSX.

As far as the forums go, there are a few, simple rules. Follow them and this site will be a wealth of information. Sites that you should check out (other than this one), and will probably use on a regular basis:
www.vfaq.com
www.teamnabr.com (search the archives. Its a closed forum, however the tech there is priceless at times)

Also Magnus Motorsport, Road Race Engineering, and Buscher Racing have good tech articles that are "must reads" They are all vendors that have been around and supporting the DSM industry for an extremely long time.

That and who wants to drop like 2 grand in there car to make 200hp when you can but one like a DSM with 200 HP already. And then later have the car break down cause you slapped a turbo on you b16 engine and you shoot a piston or whatever right through the block and then your done.

Some honda forum (I'm ASSuming), and they're telling him that DSMs are the dark side.

I was watching the speed channel the other day and this guy had a prelude and it had (i think he said) 10 grand in the engine and Speed channel dyno'd it and and it only pulled 187 hp. Thats why DSMers are the dark side, and I am also sure that Toyota and Nissan and any company that doesn't always run N/A engines like Honda/Acura.

If you do buy a DSM then welcome to the darkside Soda. I had a 96 Accord and I Loved that car now I have a Eclipse GST and it blows that car out of the water.

man, when i was 16 and i saw the fast and furious 1 (the second one sucked) i thought honds were the shit. so i got one, and it was a 95 hatch, that i put a b18 dohc vetch in it. yeah it was alright, remember this was back in the ricy stage, and i didnt know much about dsms, then this guy at a gas station pulls in with a 1g right, i dont hear the turbo and i didnt know they had one. total sleeper, it was junk looking. he said u wanna race, i laughed, so we get on the road and pull up to the light and i launch at 5 and he does to and he hores me like a little bi***, i follow him and talk to him, and from that day on, i love dsm and hate hondas. i spent so much money trying to get 200 hp its not even funny. just thought i would express my thoughts about the two rivels

Ayeee people!!! No honda vs DSM crap. Please keep the thread open as an informative thread for orange soda, and lets try to keep the street racing crap off as well.

(my buddy had a 94 ish hatch weighed less than 2000 lbs, MAYBE 200hp, but it ran 12.5s with r-compounds. He just bought another hatch with the RSX engine, runs 12s flat.

thats another difference. DSMs don't swap engines. It just doesn't work. Unless your especially cool like Peregrine and happen to own a retro dodge...

Ah, Ah, AAH, now... It's about power/weight ratios at the end of all things :thumb: .

Orange Soda, you'll come to realize that tuning a 90s honda ecu is cake versus the dsm ecu. Cake meaning cheap. You'll be spending more and probably get DSMLink to get something that compares to Hondata, or the other verious free programing software out there for honda. Yet, from my experience, honda engines break up when you really pour the power on them. DSMs: iron block. If you're a DSMer, you'll be happy if you get a good tuning setup. Everything from there is based on your own tuning skills and the bargains you find on parts.

You look sideways at 4g63s and they make power. No matter what level you're at, it is relatively inexpensive to overcome your dsm weight with an upgrade. This becomes an addiction if not held in check :D .

I'm selling the teg cause I've put about 7 grand into motor shit, and i run high 14's. H-I, is a houston import site, Houston-imports.com Most of them are all honda guys, few domestics and such. But I love the awd TSI's, I drove a friend's 91, all he had was 3 inch piping from the turbo back....And pulled like a bi*** compared to my teg. Thats what got my attention. Now, im an offical DSMer.. Glad to be on the "DARKSIDE" :talon:

+ a spooling turbo sounds a lot better then a Vtec ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

You WILL NOT regret your decision (as long as you know how to work on a DSM)
I remember the day I chose to go DSM
I was at a local dealership with cash in hand. I test drove a fully built civic SI, I was not impressed. Then I test drove a stock 96 non turbo eclipse that just blew that civic out of the water... I bought it 5 minutes later, and have since owned 4 dsm's (but I have to admit, I nutted myself when I drove the s2000) :shhh:

Good luck with finding a DSM
and welcome!

 Wanna take a ride in my car??!! I've had a couple come up on me on the interstate and they never get past my door (I do not admit to racing; they just never got past my door). Well, it probably handled the corners like a poll dancer :thumb: . And they're not weak. It's the supercharged suckers you have to watch out for :rocks: .

It wasnt even the acceleration or speed that I liked... I mean it was alright
But it was the drifting that I had fun with, the second you let off the gas, that car levels itself out so perfectly! It was just fun...
Cant drift in my DSM LOL!
