Kind of an odd noob question but i searched and couldnt find anything on it? I was wondering if our cars had governors on them? Just a random question. Thanks for the help. :dsm:

Thanks for the info, it sounds about right. My friend has a Talon TSi AWD and hes hit 150+ so im pretty sure he doesnt have a governor. The idea of AWD not having one and a FWD having one would make sense. Thanks again :thumb:

What kind of rpms was your friend turning? My AWD tops out at 152 mph in 5th gear. I could go higher but I would have to chanve my rev limter

It's not the idea of AWD. AWD cars come with Z rated tires stock. So no govenor is needed. FWD come's with H rated tire's so they govern around 137. Just swap an AWD ECU into a FWD if you don't want a govenor. Or get DSMLink.

Im not sure what type of RPM's he was running. I wasnt with him, my other friend was with him and said he hit around 155. Im guessing around 6000 RPM? His car is wierd though, It has over 200k on it and some days it wont start and once it does the turbo will lag like theres no tomorrow and other days its as smooth as a whistle. But now his turbo is leaking, but hes doing a 6 Bolt Swap at the end of the month hopefully.

So mine has been removed?! I'm the second owner of my 1g and I know the guy before me would not have removed the govenor. He gave me all the receipts and it was basically stock. I have honestly hit 145 several times :thumb:. How can this be?

I know the speed governor on the 2g gst's does exist and is because of the different tire ratings, but can anyone confirm there is a limiter on the 1g's or that it is the same?

Ecu could of burned out on it and he could of picked up a AWD ecu.

Nope. I have the receipt from the mechanic he went to 3 months before I bought the car.
Its a nonEPROM Fed 91-92 fwd turbo ECU. MD166260
And I bought a new EPROM ECU from MOTOGuy's Garage on ebay :rocks:.

I've honestly hit atleast 143+ on both ECUs. I have stock size tires and rims.

2 g fwd have them 1gs fwd and awd and 2g awd don't. and you don't need to swap ecus. all you have to do is cut the resistors out of the 2g fwd ecu and it is gone.

Although your speedo does say that your going 150 you might not really be going that fast. Speedo are usually accurate until around 80. They are not made to measure above 100. Not that it matter that much but there is generally +/- 5mph. It would be cool if you were really going 155.

Yes the 2g fwd's have a governer, but 2g awd, and all 1g's dont. But if its a 1g fwd iwouldnt recommend doing 145+mph on anything but z rated tires. The only technical governer that Ive hit with my 92 talon tsi fwd, is no more power for me to go past 146 mph on a flat road, but i can bury the speedo going down a hill.

Tire rating doesnt matter much unless you plan on cruising at 150 for an hour or two. The top speed rating just means that you shouldn't go past a certain speedlimit for a certain period of time. So you can hit 150 as long as you don't hold it there :thumb:.

My old bimmer did 145 no problem on stock tires .

Where are you guys getting your speed numbers from. Hopefully not the speedometer. . .

A 2g gst has a speed limiter build in the ecu. and it can be disabled rather easily with a little research...

Not to preach to you guys, but please dont tell me your doing this on public roads. Also if you want to get accurate use any gps thing, itll tell you real quick and accurately. thats what the speedometer calibration guys use!

I goven at 140, but I can go 130 in 4th gear so I think I could hit 150 or so if I remove the resistor.

Seems like everyone is talking about GST/GSX...anyone know if the RS/GS have governers??

guy above me got jokes. Well heres one for you a stock GS doen 140.....wana know how i know.....a cop clocked me at 142 and chased my ass down i ditched the lights and made my way onto a off ramp and then home.He was a friend of mine so he came to me KNOWING it would be me. Quite indiscretly he said..."craig i was at a speed trap and then out of no where a car flys by. Im not talking 90 it was more of a street racing high speed kind of car and sound. Looked a lot like yours when i saw a glimpse in my headlights. Now i know your not going to be doing 140+ on a highway so if it was you stop being a dumbass and dont do it again. Just get it dynoed if you want to test the speed" i calmly replied with a grin and said wait till its turbo ;). So theres you answer no the GS dosent have a governer. Why is it my GS can roll with a turbo gst or gsx to 140? Weird ay. Now it dosent shoot to 140 but it definitly shoots to 120 then 130 a little slower then crawls to 140...i caught a hill luckily also sooo could this be why?

There's no way your car can run with a GST or GSX unless your car has got some pretty decent mods and the GST and GSX are completely stock and running like complete crap. I ran a friend with my GST and he had his GS. He was so pissed he wouldn't even come over to my house or talk to me after we raced i beat him so bad. He's got exhaust and intake, i don't know what else, but he's got a few other mods. My GST is 100% stock. Just because your car can get up to 140 going down a hill doesn't mean you can run with a GST or GSX. Don't go around saying stupid stuff like that. Don't give DSM's a ricer reputation. Saying you can beat a Turbo car in a N/T is pretty much the same as saying putting lambo doors and body kit on your car adds 20-50hp.
