Kind of an odd noob question but i searched and couldnt find anything on it? I was wondering if our cars had governors on them? Just a random question. Thanks for the help. :dsm:

hey let me re-phrase thet before 2g rff takes my post so literally that his head implodes. My car can go to 140.....gst and gsx other people are saying they can only get to around 140. Why is it that my car can eaily get to 140 and its not a 40degree decline hill man it was a damn hill enough said. Then other peoples can merely get around 140. Its just a simple question not a war petition. I just want to know if it's because other people get to 140 fast (unlike me where it took a little to get there) or it they took a while.

ohh no no man......i was joking also. Sorry to make that unclear for you its so hard to tell over the computer ya know. Think of it a GS doing 140 which is a lot of times 5-10mph less then a gst or gsx. Its just hard to beleive and quite funny.

LOL at the last 3 posts. FIGHT! FIGHT! ROFL ROFL

The difference is the fact that I can hit 140mph before you hit 80mph. You need 5 miles of deserted highway to hit 140+.... I need 1 city block and a 25mph rolling start.:thumb:

My friend with a bone stock '94 N/T Talon tried to tell me how fast it was because he could cruise at 120mph no problem. Its people like that that give N/T's a bad name and ruin it for people that actually do have fast ones.

Your powerless cars will do 140mph because these things have relatively good aerodynamics. After like 75mph, somewhere around 80% (or the majority) of power is being used to overcome wind resistance. If the body doesn't have much wind resistance to overcome, then you don't need much power to go high speed. Apparently the piddlely N/T power is enough. The Toyota Pruis has a whopping 95hp, but I've done 115mph in one. All thanks to a rediculously low 0.25Cd.

With all that said. You're all on crack making 5th gear pulls to redline in high boosted turbo cars. You're begging to break something. Its built and tuned to go WOT for 12 seconds at a time, not 40+ seconds.

Yea this governor sucks. I got smoked yesterday when an STi walked past me at 140mph when I was like in neutral. I'm definately going to try this mod in the next week and see what happens. Other than that, I was keeping up pretty well. He was stock and still had temp tags

One little question and everyone starts chewing each others heads off...oops. ROFL

So...GST/GSX can get up to 140mph quicker than a RS/GS can, but non-the-less, the GS/RS CAN..get up to it...and just like how the GS/RS can pull up to 120 quickly, is like the GST/GSX can pull up to 140 quickly...if there WERE NO governers on the GSX or GST's...im sure they would still pull 140 quickly and slowly pull up to 150-160...just like how the RS/GS pulls from 120 to 140.

Thats my guess. I've never driven my eclipse gs out of first gear yet...I cant wait !!
I've driven a V8 Camaro 350/350, that punched up to 160mph once, fastest I've ever gone...and My Honda CRX up to 120-125mph, not as FAST, but Just AS QUICK, if not Quicker. So its kind of a sit and wait thing for me...I have no idea how far I can let my engine rev to or whatever...

When I drove my CRX, the Tach didnt work...so I had to learn by sound...which was good...but when I wanted to street race, i learned to take it all the way out, till it starts to bogg...and I watch the Speedometer (mph)...So then I could estimate at what MPH should I shift at...Thats how I beat 4.6L mustangs in a little CRX...Perfect Shifting every time.

Now I got a Tachometer that works, and a hydraulic clutch, and ANOTHER short shifter...I have no idea how well my car is going to perform...can anyone give me an idea of what the REDLINE limit is on their GST/GSX/RS/GS...just for sh-tz and gigglez.?

Im not sure what type of RPM's he was running. I wasnt with him, my other friend was with him and said he hit around 155. Im guessing around 6000 RPM? His car is wierd though, It has over 200k on it and some days it wont start and once it does the turbo will lag like theres no tomorrow and other days its as smooth as a whistle. But now his turbo is leaking, but hes doing a 6 Bolt Swap at the end of the month hopefully.

now thatsounds like the dsm's we all know and love and occasionally want to bash all thier windows in while its on fire and send it driving off of a bridge

psh.. I'd like to know how you GS/RS folks are hitting 120-140

my gs will go all out til EXACTLY 105, and the spedo just sticks... it really sucks

nothing too major man. Cold air intake....exhaust and you should be able to. Your car being stock may be restrickted due to the air box. IM pretty sure there are a/f sensors in there and when you put on a reg cold air your car can go above that because its not resiricted to a box now. not too sure but its a suggestion

ROFL This gets better and better. Finally someone admits to the REAL top speed of a N/T. And for the record. I've driven a 2G GS 5speed. It WILL NOT do 140mph. Maybe 110mph down a huge hill with a strong tail wind, but never 140. The power to weight on those things is like 23:1, right around where a Geo Metro is. My Saturn had a more respectable 19:1 and equal Cd, it stopped at going at 110.:tease:

Maybe that original guy meant KPH.:thumb:

Actually the gs will do 120-130 definitely topping out 130. It really struggles at 110 but will go above that. I had one and I also have a gsx so im not too biased.

i do not want to keep going to prove people wrong but you should beleive 140 is capible in a GS. I can do 120 EASILY....from 80-120 my GS can get there in about 5 seconds i reach 110 on a weekend basis. If your GS cant do 110 you might want to check into that. Ill do 130 and get a pic for you guys. Everyone really underestimates the GS's it seems. 130 is not fast in my case. I say 140 and up fast but 105-110 is a reg speed around here.

Seems like everyone is talking about GST/GSX...anyone know if the RS/GS have governers??

My '99 RS has a governor. Before i thought it was 100 because it was struggling but then i raced my friends celica and i was able to hit about 107 so im thinking that it has either a 110-115 governor :notgood:

Same with my '99 RS :|

If your GS can do that, keep it. Every 1G and 2G RS/GS I've seen was slow compared to my 2G TSI AWD. Maybe it's be cause they were automatics?? I've only hit 140 in mine. Got too scared to take it any faster. Funny how the local cops don't like my Talon. Wonder why?? LOL

2gnt's do not have a limiter, they are drag limited, meaning they will go until the engine can't overcome drag. Increase the power, and the top end increases. That said, most factory 2gnt's won't go beyond 125mph.

If you can only get 107mph then you are lacking power. Something is wrong. Look to find it and fix it. I have no idea what the actual top speed is on my 2gnt, or any of the turbo car's I have/do own. I've never tried to find out. I don't care.

That said, please keep the stupid shit off the streets. I have a wife and daughter that commute on the streets.

Couldn't have said it better:applause: I get so tired of people asking me, "What does it top out at man?":ohdamn: Like it's no big deal to top out your car on public roads.:| Who gives a shit what it will top out at.
150mph on the highway=dumbass:notgood:
150mph on the track=badass
See the difference here. Anyone can do a top speed run. I just wish more people would bring it to the track. Sorry for getting off subject, I'm done ranting now before I get

Dunno why people consider Top speed so important anyways. My concern is how fast you can get there. Kyromoto's Rally car is geared for acceleration. He is in third to get to 70, but that's on dirt. :D

On short tracks you need quick acceleration, so you would hardly get to see the top end anyways. I can see if you're on a long track with longer straights, but *Shrugs* How many of those are around.

Back on Topic however: A lot of cars can reach incredible speeds and have really wimpy motors.
Part 6: Speed and Horsepower
The first car to reach 100mph was in 1904. :thumb:
World's first 100 MPH car. Louis Rigolly Gobron Brillié.
First 200 mph car was in 1927.
World's first 200 MPH car. Henry Segrave Sunbeam 1000 hp.

not to be the bubble burster but ive heard from multiple people in the car manufacturing side of the industry that there are only a hand full of cars that can go over 140 and that all cars since like mid to late 80's (not positive on the years) have goveners. Most cars get to 120 before the govener kicks in then thats as fast as you go eventhough the speedo may continue to climb. So unless you have so sort of proof that your car HAS gone above 120, without saying,"well my speedo said.." because if you think about it, if your flying down the highway how do you KNOW that you are ACTUALLY doing what the speedo says. I mean a stock gsx says like 145 or something like that but I dont know of anyone who has proven hitting it in a completely stock car. If you took your governer out that i dont see why you couldnt pass the 120 mark, BUT if you havent took it out and you call these kind of numbers...one of us is lying

I thinks it's been repeated enough for you to see that theawd 2g's dont have a top speed governor. And Your people you hear have no clue what they are talking about to be honest. My mom's saab 2007 9-3 special edition does 150 my car is goign to be able to do 160 or more with my new tranny when it gets put in.

 UM IM A BIT CONFUSED I MEAN I UNDERSTAND THAT A NON TURBO 2.0 DOESNT HAVE ALOT OF POWER BUT I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR AND HE HAS HIT 145 FAIRLY EASY :hellyeah: AND NO ITS NOT BY THE SPEEDO BUT WITH A GPS HOW IS THAT? CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT IVE BEEN WITH HIM WHEN IT HAS HAPPEN AND WHEN WE ARE AT THOSE SPEEDS HE SLAMS TO THE THROTTLE EVEN MORE AND YOU COULD STILL FEEL IT PULL AND YES ITS A STOCK ECU, 5 SPEED 96 ECLIPSE 2.0 NON TURBO AND THE CAR ONLY HAS HEADERS A INTAKE AND A MUFFLER OTHER THAN THAT IM COMFUSED THAT PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY WONT PASS 140...! SO

 n/a 2.0 1g cars have the same suspension as a turbo FWD. Are you talking 2g n/a or 1g n/a. . . How different are 2g n/a suspensions from 1g n/a? tires? what?. . . But I wouldn't do that speed on a public thoroughfair for sure. THAT I agree with.
