OK..First off Hello to eveyrone.... this is my first Import and First DSM motor... im a V8 chevy guy so this 4 cylinder is diffrent to me.. i just bought a 95 Talon 2.0l 16 valve.... i was told it was a 420a motor... anyways the guy i bought it from said it had a bad rod bearing.... when i start it it has a bad knock.... it hasnt been drivin since the knock started he said and i just towed it home today... he said it was fairly easy drop the pan and replace the bearings.. i have done this my 94 T/A before but my V8 is diffrent than this 4c..... any how to articles or any help would be great.. i want to get this fixed but not sure where to start... i really want to drive this car out of all the imports the Eclipse/talon is my Favorite.... Thanks agian... :thumb:

look around on this www.vfaq.com and see some bottom end pics. this sight has a 1000 and 1 ways why it is so easy to bash these cars. it is pretty straight forward once you drop the pan. just depends how sneaky you can be.

well...glad to have you with us from the chevy camp. too bad you didn't get the turbo, you would never go back to V8's again! As for your problem, like its been said, Vfaq is where I would start. Your car has alot of potential though as well...you would be surprised just how much you will be able to get out of that little motor of yours. :thumb:

The 420A motor is fairley straight foreward, however in your case I know what you are taking about. On a V8 the motor sits front to back and the 420 sits transversly. Its easier to do on a V8 but you can do it on your car(had the same thing happen to my 96 NT). The only real diffrence is there is going to be a crossmember that runs under the oil pan that is the tricky part. Once all the bolts and the exhaust pipe have been removed, your going to have to muscle the pan out, but be careful not to damage the oil pick up. Once its out replace the bearing according to specs, then comes the reallly fun part, your going to have to twist and turn and fight with it and cuss at it, all to get the pan back in. But once its in just re-bolt it up refill the oil and replace the exhaust and you should be good to go. By the way I was a DSM guy but after some moron here in PA and killed my beautiful GSX which was my fourth DSM, I gave up and bought a Mustang Cobra. But I still have a huge softspot in my heart for these things.

yea im glad to be here.. i love my Trans Am... but with gas prices stil on the rise and i have to run 93 octane i loose money fast.... i need this car as my daily driver.. but im sure when i start driving it more and more, ill park the T/A ,rebuild the motor... and drive the talon like crazy... ill prob put more performance parts on the Talon when i get the bit by the bug... i have laughed at the attempts of these cars to run me down in the T/A but i know they can go fast with some help.. i raced a gst and only got him by about 1 car length from a 40 mph role.... im really going to enjoy this car.. BTW how or where do i figure out the Specs on the bearings i need... i was told there are diffrent ones for diffrent rods? Thanks agian :talon:

I get all of my specs from All Data at school so there really isn't much that I don't have access to automotive repair world. If you need any thing along those lines just let me know and I can look it up for you.

so sorry..... im used to calling them imports.. i guess they are Domestics.. well at least no one can call me a rice burner... thats a lift off my shoulders... all my T/A, Z28 guys were laughing callin me a rice burner.....but im glad its a domestic... yea i could use the specs on the rod bearings? how many?.. has anyone ever done a Bearing swap on these cars? i looked on vFAQ but got nothing on doing a rod bearing....any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks Agian,
Chris
