I have been researching my 6 bolt 2.4L build for a while now and I reached a point where I need to make sure that I will have everything I will need for a complete build. I have compiled an extensive spreadsheet of parts and after a bit of research I may have come to the conclusion that buying a longblock from SBR ($6000) would be very close to the same price as accumulating the parts and building it myself. I actually wanted to do all of the work myself (except for the complex machining of the head), but I need to make sure that I am not forgetting anything in my parts buildup as well as a few other compatibility questions. The real problem arises from the fact that I dont have a 6 bolt to pull parts from for the 4G64 build so I must accumulate almost everything to build a standalone engine. Every thread that describes the build as merely swapping everything over and using a 4G64 DOHC timing belt and gears. That isnt enough information for me.
My first question is the differences in the oil pump, front case, and other engine components. Will I need a new front case, rear main seal, rear main seal plate, and oil pump? I know I am supposed to use the 6 bolt oil pickup, timing belt tensioner, timing belt cover, oil filter housing, oil dipstick and tube and the 7 bolt oil pan. Using the 1G head and cam sensor should allow the installation to be exactly like a normal 6 bolt swap. Any help would be appreciated and please correct any misconceptions or misinformation in this post.
