need help on exhaust

i just got my engine rebuilt and theres still a couple things i need done to it.

-exhaust has no catalytic converter, so which is the best one i should get?

i have a 4" thermal R&D exhaust on my 98 GST if that helps

-oil lines and turbo arent hooked up, now i was told to leave em unhooked until i talk to a tuner.

need suggestions here and price quotes on what i would be paying is helpful thanks!

Finish installing the turbo, don't believe everything you hear. Also, I don't believe Thermal ever made a 4" exhaust.

4 inch thermal.I bet its just the muffler tip is 4 inches.
Turbo being unhooked in a turbo vehicle is the oppossite of the point.Sooo I'm not sure if your serious.

Is it stm thats offering to cut that flange off and redo it in 3 inches before they ship? Its one of our vendors I remember that much.

whole bunch of fail in this post, but needless to say, turbo isnt hooked up but thats not the main problem here, trying to find a good cat converter to go on this

I just installed a RRE downpipe and one of their high flow cats and the quality is great. I choose the RRE downpipe so that I could install the cat for emissions and still run a test pipe. It also ended up being cheaper than a local exhaust shop quoted me for installing a flanged cat in a Apexi downpipe. You will need to modify your catback to work with their downpipe but you would be able to get rid of that 2.5" section. You will loss some performance from the cat as urbansmoker stated. Spool and top end will suffer. It's hard to give good advice when your mods in your profile aren't filled out. Help us help you.

The best cat I've seen is the "Random Technology" metal core cats. They are VERY free flowing and they are CARB approved and come with a little green card to prove it. They do also have a racing version as even certain classes of race cars are required to have them. They even have a 4" in and out version.

I went with a RRE downpipe and cat delete and I re-flanged my HKS Hi-power cat back to bolt up to the 3 inch downpipe .. small modification that make me a full and true 3 inch exhaust and it was under 1 grand

Keep your oil lines and turbo unhooked until you talk to a tuner? Sounds like they just dont want you to blow up your motor. Hook them up so you can install the exhaust as well, just dont be rip snortin' around!

Yea STM did in the past but I'm not sure if they still do. I had purchased my thermal before they started doing that so I called them up and they sold me the 3" flange with about 6 inches of pipe already welded to it for about 50 bucks.

no engine just got rebuilt by a dealership, so many things was wrong with it, and those two things are the last things i need to do.

nope wasnt cheap at all and i dont think so, they fixed the engine, that was it, i asked them if everything was good and they were like "yes the ENGINE is set to go, but your turbos unhooked and you have no cat" im just like of course, asked if they can fix it but thats when he said to not hook the turbo up until i talk to a tuner

wtf? He should have said dont even start it or take it out of here cause there obviously bullshitting you... Why would you unhook the turbo anyways? get any mechanic to put on a HIGH FLOW CAT just google it and find the best price....

Whats still wrong with the car? if your just missing your cat the car can be started and driven without it (just to drive it to the shop to put it on) But im guessing you dont have an o2 sensor or something... Did they say anything about your ecu already having DSMLINK, or some other tuning software that would be the only reason you need a tuner....

I hate morons that think they know something about these cars (meaning dude at the dealership). The problem with the dealerships is most of the guys that did work on these cars no longer work at the dealer anymore. What does he mean your turbos unhooked? Like he didn't install it or has the wastegate flapper unhooked. You do not need a tuner for a stock turbo running stock boost on a stock car. Thats what the ECU is for. If your set up is all stock or close to it put the turbo on or what ever is unhooked and get your exhaust in order and drive it. Even with your mods as long as you don't run past 10 or so psi you should be completely fine on the factory ecu.

nah i need to replace the 02 sensor, that i knew, still havent been down there to pick it up after its been finished, been away for the holidays. He recommended the high flow cat as well so looks as if i am going with that.

No he didnt, but did say car has never been tuned so its in my best interest to get a conservative tune on it.

Well the guy that rebuilt it has been working there for 18 years so i got lucky on that part. He said what he believes is previous owner boosted too high and blew the lines out. Theres a decent amount of mods on it, its an evo3 16g turbo but ill fill out the mods now.

If it arrived with turbo hooked up it should leave with turbo hooked up

How do you boost too high and blow out the lines? You physically cant blow out the oil lines because they are metal if stock. The coolant lines would not blow from boosting too much. The vacuum line might blow off running to a boost controller or the vacuum actuator on the turbo causing you to over boost, lean out and blow the f up. 18 years or not this guy sounds like he doesnt know his as$ from a hole in the ground or your very bad at translating what he is telling you.

I would spend a few hours on google doing some research. You are going to get bent over taking it to a dealership, especially one that won't hook up the turbo
