i just got my engine rebuilt and theres still a couple things i need done to it.

-exhaust has no catalytic converter, so which is the best one i should get?

i have a 4" thermal R&D exhaust on my 98 GST if that helps

-oil lines and turbo arent hooked up, now i was told to leave em unhooked until i talk to a tuner.

need suggestions here and price quotes on what i would be paying is helpful thanks!

HAHAHAHAHAHHAA NOT HOOK THE TURBO UP TIL YOU TALK TO A TUNER!? Do they know these came from the factory with turbo? I'd sue

If it arrived with turbo hooked up it should leave with turbo hooked up

I assume not hooked up means feed/water lines/drain

it wasnt hooked up going there haha, but now that i had a chance to ask him some more questions, turbos probably done and im going to have to get a new one :banghead:

I would spend a few hours on google doing some research. You are going to get bent over taking it to a dealership, especially one that won't hook up the turbo ROFL

I don't even want to know how much this is all costing you.

yeah its a pretty penny but iv had it for some time, took it to places and started to get fed up with noone helping so i went to the dealer because money became not a problem.

been doing some research though, im gonna go with a high flow cat, as for the turbo im clueless right now, maybe go with another 16g but well see

It sounds like they are throwing the typical dealership bull shit on you man... go in for a free oil change and leave with a $500 bill. I'd take that thing out of the shop and run.

You don't NEED a cat.
If all you got is a 16g on wastegate pressure, you don't NEED a tune.
If the turbo wasn't blown when you took it in, you don't NEED a turbo.

You know mechanics get little bonuses for bending guys with your mentality over. Come in for a $2000 rebuild shouting "money aint a thang", and you buy a $1000 mhi turbo that will probably be a 14b since they won't look up its a 16g, order in a cat @ $300 with a $250 install. Then they send you over to their buddy so they can get a piece of that change for a $300 tune up on a stock setup.

In the end, you get raped out of $4000 and you have a stock car.

Yea if money isn't an issue then why not send it to a reputable shop that are know for building DSM's? Dealerships don't make people better mechanics or more knowledgeable, they just happen to wear a shirt that has the same emblem as your front bumper.

Couldnt be more TRUE,

And to think you could habe had a 9 second dsm with that cash wasted at the stealership!

My dad used to work for Ford, for something like 35-36 years. I used to work with him in the parts dept and I've seen and heard it all. The mechanics actually come in (to the back parts counter) and brag about how much shit they got people to buy. One mechanic replaced an air filter for around $90, the one they pulled didn't even look like it had dirt in it.

The best for them was telling the diesel guys they needed their glow plugs and injectors replaced... I think they were like $200 or so each.

Rape!

Well if money is not an issue call forced performance up and get a new turbo. From what you wrote you have no engine management which you should be looking into that over a cat.

wheres forced performance at?

Send whole car to STM and be done

wheres STM at? LOL

hm im gonna see how KPTuning goes first

Are you somewhat of a gear head at all? You could do a turbo and exhaust with basic hand tools, reading turbo install info off this site or using youtube videos. Hell I could call you and tell you how to do it over the phone. If you aren't able to work on it I understand. Being a dsmer is all about saving money and DIY:thumb:

Dealerships have to go by the book on emissions stuff. They may not want to install the turbo because it is a pre cat exhaust mod. which is illegal. And obviously a dealer cannot remove or replace a functioning catalytic converter.

Everyone want to call the dealer dumb shits, but they have guidlines they must follow. A certain amount of accoutability needs to fall on the consumer. Who is the dumbshit when you take a highly modified car to a reputable dealer expecting illegal modifications? The consumer needs to use their head and take the car to an appropriate garage for the type of work needed.

The reality is no dsm probably needs to be at a dealership paying $130/hour labor rates on a 17 year old car that just about any shop can hang parts off of.

took the car to many garages before and they all said they couldnt do anything about it, and the dealership was my last option, i said countless times, when i asked is everything good they told me those two things, and i also said they werent trying to #### me over and buy it from them, guy even told me to go to a body shop for that.

A tuner can't tune a car that's half-way assembled. They can't tune a car that doesn't "have the turbo hooked up".

I don't know where you live in Jersey but I would take my car to Stm if it was that close, screw kptuning (no offense) but Stm knows and builds bad ass dsm's and supports the community very well. They could hook you up with anything and everything you need to get the car moving at any hp level you want.

A tuner can't tune a car with no tuning hardware for that matter.. read this thread twice now and still doesn't make any sense.

Start from the top, because your exhaust is pretty low on the list of things that need to be addressed it would seem.

You bought a non-running or running but fatally wounded DSM?

You then took it to a dealership?

Dealership rebuilt the engine? What did they do? Surely you have an invoice you can post up.

You are currently in possession of these parts, but they won't put them on the car, is that correct?:
FP Race Cast Manifold
Evo3 16G turbo w/ 34mm internal WG flapper
Punishment Racing SS o2 Housing
Punishment Racing SS Downpipe
Thermal R&D Cat-Back Exhaust

If this is the case, that does not surprise me actually. The dealership saw or were told about these and probably went "we want to avoid any BS if this guy ends up blowing his sh!t to pieces as he leaves the lot."

How did they block off the Oil and Coolant feeds/returns for the turbo and how do they plan to let you drive away without so much as an exhaust manifold on the car? Did you ask them about this?

What (if anything) do you have to tune with? Do you have a wideband O2 plumbed in? Do you know what wastegate actuator you have? Have you or the previous owner rewired the fuel pump?

hm im gonna see how KPTuning goes first

Edit: its 5 hours to STM. I was gonna say id take it to them asap, especially if you're not scared to drop 5k or more. Unless this KPtuning place is really good, ive never heard of them.

explain the situation better. See Landspeeds questions and report back.

all of those parts are on the car yes, turbo is blown so thats why its not hooked

havent been there yet, planning on going tomorrow so i will have more information for you guys, i dont know what actuator is in there and im buying DSMlink v3lite to tune it with, it has ecu flash now but imma change it to dsmlink

+1 for taking it to STM if money really isn't an issue LOL..

Also, how is it running if there's no turbo on it? Unless it's parked at the dealers still..?

turbos in it just not hooked up, probably because its blown and yes still at dealers

Steal parts? You have to be kidding me. How could you post something like this? I would love to know who you are that you can post bullshit like this about a reputable business.
I will bet you were never a customer here and you are not dealing with first hand info.....

I brought my car there when the engine first blew and the people there literally did nothing about it when i wanted them to tell me whats wrong with it, all they said was take it on the highway and rip it a few times and itll go away. Are you kidding me? Then i had bell mitsubishi rebuild the engine and once again brought it back to them to see if they can tune it and once again they were like "we dont tune cars if we didnt rebuild it" thats understandable but also a bunch of bullshit considering you could always make me sign something to reassure you wouldnt be liable if anything broke...
