Hey everyone, Im new to the whole DSM community and cars for that matter. Im more of a v8 guy but...DSM are great cars. Anyways, My name is Phil and I am in a debaucle. I have to choose between two cars, one has 180k miles and its a 90, the other is 130k miles and its a 95. The thing is that the 90 is really well maintained. The owner has only ever put synthetic mobile 1, premium gas (obviously) and taken really great care of the car. For gods sake he has the stock radio/cd player! LOL its in great shape all around and maintained. The other I wont say is bad either (the 95) Thing is though that its got a shifting problem where something is wrong with the linkage or something he was saying? it doesnt completely engage into second sometimes. Now I liked both cars, but I absolutely have a better feeling with the 90...Not only is it really great but it has those sexy pop up lights LOL. I need help guys...btw both are priced the same.

If the 1g is in better condition than the 2g go with that if your not concerned with looks. A well maintained 180k car beats a rough driven to hell 130k car. You may not know if the 2g was driven to hell, but if you know the 1g wasn't get it. Plus yes you would have a 6bolt and lighter car. 7bolts do crank walk, but its still rare.

Wow LOL everyones so nice in these forums, (muscle car forums are usually dicks) LOL anyways its a 90, AWD, with no abs, and has LSD rear diff. Here are some pics.... of the 90

Factory Radio!!! LOL

I dont know why I said 95 earlier, its actually a 92**************sorry about that. its a GSX AWD, and it has a 6 bolt motor or whatnot (still have no idea what the diff of all the bolts is LOL) here are a couple pics, all I got. **Off topic, I dont really plan on doing anything really with either of them, I just want to keep it stock...at least until next summer when I have the car I want and this will be my toy...

Get that '90! That sucker is clean and unmolested! Comparing a mint '90 vs. a beaten '92 with only 50k less miles (both AWD). Hands down, '90.

As far as the difference between 6 bolts and 7 bolts, it refers to the amount of bolts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft. 6 bolts have stronger connecting rods and are generally preferred for their increased strength.

Hope this helps!

i went to look at that 92 its not really beaten but i also agree that i would go with all stock vs some aftermarket parts because you know it wasn't molested if they didnt want to change anything to make it faster :p

clean looking 90! Thats definitely the one you should get

If you do get the 90, I seen some little rust spots, they're not on the frame from what I can see, but I would still replace those before they spread to the frame and your car ends up being on the news for rust damage like others on here... Ehh hem!!

they're going for 2,500. Yeah I was leaning towards the 90' The guy who has it is mechanically inclined and has done work on it himself, not to mention that he had 7 cars at once and now is getting rid of them for a house. So kinda shows he took care of his things. He also mentioned that he didn't beat on the car considering its stock, he said theyre slow. Doesnt bother me though. LOL The other guy when I went to see his car the 92' I asked him to drive me around the block and show me how it shifts and all that...the kid was practically beating the shit out of a car I would have bought. It really wasn't bad but just knowing he beat the shit out of it the way he did, I didnt really wanna mess with that. I really love the 1g look, the pop up lights and the style its freakin sexy as hell! LOL I appreciate you guys taking the time and helping me out with the decision. Now I need some wheels LOL

Hmmm..I actually dont know where you see it? Let me know so I can take care of it!

I just reread yours and noticed your from chitown as well. Your right it wasn't beaton bodywise. It did have an intake and I believe from what I can remember (it was dark) An exhaust, might not mean much but you never know. Also the kid drove me down the block beating the shit out of it, nice kid though.

Okay no offense to everyone here, but they are making their recommendation based on their personal likes and what-not. Let's look at this logically, not saying any of them did this, but I have enough spare parts at my house to return 3 2Gs from fully modified back to completely stock for a sale. Something being completely stock, especially a DSM, doesn't mean it always was. So don't put too much weight on that fact.

Next, while not a big 1G fan, I do know you may run into some parts compatibility issues with a 1990 that you would not with a 1991 to 1994. Check into that before making a decision.

Otherwise, go with what you personally like. Nothing on these cars can't be resolved with some elbow grease, TLC and a bit of money. In the end make sure you get which one you will want to drive more. Welcome to the DSM scene, best of luck on your purchase.

Nice car bro....I'd keep the 90 for sure and jz use the 92 for parts LOL.... at least swap all the rusted parts out before you get rid of it... now it jz needs a paint job oh and don't forget maintance work too and your good to go :thumb:

The 92 might have a 4 bolt rear which would be a nice thing to have over the 90. The 90 is also going to have different shifter cables, wiring, transfer case and output shaft spline count... from the 91-94 as stated. I would look at things like how they shift, engine compression, turbo shaft play, ball joints and tie rods... They both look decent so I'd decide after looking them over.

Your completely right, I do agree. I only like the 90' more because of the history behind it. Theres only been two owners. The guy who has it now, and the guy who had it first. The history of the first owner is actually quite interesting. He was a dealer working at a dealership here in chitown where they sold jeeps and eagles. He ordered himself one in 89' he made sure it was the premium choice, with leather, cd player, and the works basically. Of course I dont know if he beat on it, but considering it was an older person I dont think hed beat on it. When I had my gt I'd try racing grandpa in a vette and he'd never go for it. Your right it might and might not have been beaten on, but looking at the car and having that gut feeling of, its good or the little voice in the back of your head saying dont do it, The little voice is telling me to do it. LOL By compatibility issues what do you mean? like motor wise and parts or?? Idk. Like I said, Im a huge newb to dsm but they're great cars.

The 90' shifts great, the 92 had a problem with the shift cables...Idk anything about that an the difficulty of fixing that and whatnot, but the guy had told me he had replaced the trans and stuff for the 92. When he was driving it and shifted into 2nd a couple of times it would pop out? I really dont want to buy a car thats going to give me shifting problems. Although I dont know how much and how hard it would be to fix the problem. He said 20 bucks would fix it for 2nd gear to stay engaged, something about a nut being tightened or loosened? idk...
