Need Fabrication Help!

I have a 2000 Eclipse with Evo 8 engine/transmission/transfer case. In order to install the transfer case I had to space the steering rack down 1.5". Now the steering rack doesn't seal inside the firewall boot. Does anyone have any ideas on how to seal the rack to the firewall? I've had it this way for years and am tired of the noise and smells.

You could use a help section type rubber shift boot. I'd throw some grease on the shaft. There is really a million ways. Get creative.

A piece of old inner tube will work good for this also. Might even get it free at a tire dealer.

What about those universal axle boots they sell at auto part stores?

I'd go with the axle cup boots. It would have a big opening on one end and a smaller opening on the other which is what you need in this scenario.

I would agree with the axle boots. They seem like they would serve the purpose well.

you could use foam pipe insulation to fill gap on the existing rubber boot.
