I am currently gathering all of the part for a turbo build up. I will have my block out tonight and am going to tear it down this weekend. So with all that in mind, I need to know what are the most recommended things for the motor build. My budget is about 1000 bucks. I do not want to change anything on the head(just head gasket, and arp studs).

So here is my list of things.

Weisco 9:1 Pistons
Stock Rods
New Rod Bearings
New Main Bearings
ARP Main Bolts
ARP Rod Bolts

Turbo Stuff
EVO III Manifold
EVO III 16g

All new gaskets everywhere.

Now for my questions.

How much to machine the crank, or should I do it at all? Do I just need to take it to a shop and ask them to look at it?

Should I go 9:1 or a lower compression. I want to run about 24-26psi.

What head gasket should I get? Cometic or OEM

What other parts would you guys recommend for the rebuild.

I am going to have the block hot tanked, bored 20 over, new freeze plugs, all the basic stuff. Any recommendations would be great.

I am also going to be taking pictures of the build so that people can see what is going on and will have a good tutorial on how to build a 1g N/A motor.

Thanks.

hey, your not gonna get those pistons and an evo3 turbo for a grand.id go with the 9:1 pistons though.the higher compression, the less your turbo has to do.your going to need a mls headgasket(cometic) to handle the 20+ psi.i did all my work on my turbo build.its not that hard to do really.just check things for obvious stuff and check clearances.youll have several hundred in machine work if you take it to a shop.i have less than 500 bucks in my turbo and my whole engine, but i did all the work.what do you want to do,run 24-26 psi or do you have a goal in mind?you will need one hell of a fuel system to run that much psi on 9:1.running 15 psi on 9:1 is like 24-26 on stock pistons.

youll need a turbo harness for your motor unless you splice in for the resistor pack and the knock sensor. also the turbo mas has one extra wire on it. youll need to basically find a turbo harness and ecu. i got a eprom and harness for liek 140 bucks

next id just go with 2g pistons. that setup (1g rods+2g pistons) has held 500whp. more then enough to hold a 16g. itll save you a few bucks and will still be a good setup even if you wanna go a little bigger with your turbo. they have a 8:5:1 compression which is plenty.

also i think goin with a 2g mani on a evo 16g is plenty. this will also save a few bucks. but the evo is a nice manifold. so thats your choice.

on the crak let the machine shop look at it and check it to makew sure every lobe is still good and round with no scars on it. as long as the crank checks out in good shape you shoudl be able to reuse it as is. if it has some scaring they will machine it as necssecary. just make sure you have them write how every much they take off down so you get bearings to match. also may come in handy in the future, you never know

get the block hot tanked, decked, new freeze plugs, honed and bored if your goin oversized on the pistons. the stock head will be ok for use with a e16g imo. good cams and a stock head have been seen together many times.

id go cometic head gasket, clevitte bearings, all arp main and rod bolts. along with head studs.

im in the process if gettin parts together for almost the same build up. im using my n/t block and making it a big rod motor with a evo16g turbo. im gonan run stock head and crower 272 cams intake and exhaust. im going with this setup because its been proven to be pretty potent and works good in a daily driver.

good luck with it. post up some pics :thumb:

Sorry, I should have specified. I already have the turbo and manifold, and that is not in the 1k budget.

My parts budget is for the work and for the parts done to the block alone.

Also, How much HP is the stock intercooler good for. I have been reading around and I cannot get any good answers.

Here is the list of stuff I already have.

EVO III Manifold
EVO III 16g
450cc Blue top injectors
Resistor Pack
2g Mas
K&N Filter kit for the 2g MAS
Turbo Cams
NGK Plugs - the ones recommended for high boost
NGK Wires
Apexi SAFC
Blitz DTT - Turbo Timer/Boost Gauge
Palm Piolt Logger
Random Gaskets here and there

Things I know I need
- Pistons
- ARP Bolts (Head, Rod, Main)
- Bearings (Rod, Main)
- HG
- Block work
- Gaskets (A shit load of them LOL
- Turbo ECU - Should have tomorrow, going to Pick A Part
- Intake Tube
- Cuplers
- Custom Oil suply and return lines
- Bung welded to oil pan for return
- Custom Turbo back exhaust
- Oil Filter Holder
- Oil Cooler and Lines

I am going to remove the B-Shafts when the motor is out.

things you need= more then a grand.

just get a oil pan form slowboy, get a knock sensor also. get a complete engine gasket set from machv. has every gasket for that motor in the kit.

get a dejon intake tube,2g pistons, try to get a eprom ecu so dsmlink can be added later.

the exhaust is whats gonna get you. the o2 housing (or eliminator dp),downpipe, cat or test pipe, and cat back will be a good chunk of that grand. the rnr setup is 600 i beleive and that complete gasket set from machv is $200. heres link to both

http://www.machv.com/comengaskit.html

http://www.rnrracing.com/cgi-bin/cc...ef=fwdetbe1&cat=fwdtbe&catstr=HOME:DSM:fwdtbe

the regular turbo back exhaust with a reg downpipe is 525, but then you need a o2 housing. the o2 eliminator is actually cheaper but if you ever need to remove the o2 housing your taking your whoel downpipe off.

after all the lines and all i see you at abotu 1500 or so for everything said and done. the block work will get you also. that will be a good amount. i havent seen pricing in a long time but when i priced otu my first motor build the machine work was as much as the exhaust i linked you to above.
