Hi all,

After countless hours of reading the tech articles, tech guide (stage 0,1,2) and posts, I feel like I am finally ready to compile a list of parts needed to achieve my goal on my daily driver.

My Goal: (maybe) 20psi (can be lower, I would like to hear your suggestions)

List of things done:
New head (16 valves, guides, seals, 3G lifters, machined and pressure tested) using mitsu head gasket. OEM exhaust manifold cracks repaired (I have 6 small cracks and lots of ticking sound).

List of goodies i plan to purchase soon:

1) ECMLink V3
2) Boost control using link
3) Boost gauge
4) Fuel pump (255)
5) Fuel rail with AFPR
6) Injectors (not sure if will need them, hoping you guys can help). If so, thinking about 650cc
7) Larger throttle body elbow
8) Larger turbo outlet elbow (I plan on using the 14b)
9) External engine oil cooler
10) C.O.P. ignition
11) Prothane engine mounts
12) When time comes, ACT clutch and alum light flywheel

Now for my questions:

a) Can I use my oem MAF without overrunning it?
b) Can the 14b handle the load? (many people on tuners have done great things with the 14b from what I read)
c) Can the 14b do what I am going to ask of it all day everyday reliably?
d) Will I see heat-soak issues with my oem SMIC?
e) Would I benefit from water injection and or intercooler sprayer?
f) Is it a good thing to tune for knock using the link?
g) Can I do this tuning with a narrowband oxygen sensor?
h) Did I miss anything?
i) Can you guys make suggestions/recommendations?

14b will be fine at 20psi, i ran mine at 27psi daily for 3500 miles and then i ended up selling the engine.

Run a 3in gm maf or a 2nd gen maf.
If you plan on putting a bigger turbo on just get bigger injectors now. I would get 850-1000s.
meth injection kit couldnt hurt ;).
DO NOT tune with a narrow band!

Now for my questions:

a) Can I use my oem MAF without overrunning it? With a 14b yes but it will be a weak link.
b) Can the 14b handle the load? (many people on tuners have done great things with the 14b from what I read) Yes they have but pushing it to the limit on a daily driver it won't last forever.
c) Can the 14b do what I am going to ask of it all day everyday reliably? Maybe. Make sure you give it enough fuel and tune it right. I would probably keep it a little under 20 psi though.
d) Will I see heat-soak issues with my oem SMIC? Back to back pulls, yes.
e) Would I benefit from water injection and or intercooler sprayer? If you are using pump gas, then yes.
f) Is it a good thing to tune for knock using the link? It is good to tune with link to prevent knock, yes.
g) Can I do this tuning with a narrowband oxygen sensor? You will want a wideband o2 sensor. It is highly recommended.
h) Did I miss anything? Exhaust, fuel injectors, and it sounds like to need to reread the upgrade paths.
i) Can you guys make suggestions/recommendations? Like mentioned, lose the COP and fuel rail, both stock parts will support over 500 hp which you won't be seeing on a 14b.

Hope this helps!

Revised plan...

"My Goal: (maybe) 20psi (can be lower, I would like to hear your suggestions)"
17 - 18 psi boost

1) ECMLink V3
2) Boost control using link
3) Boost gauge
4) Fuel pump (255)
5) AFPR
6) Injectors (not sure if will need them, hoping you guys can help). If so, thinking about 650cc
7) Larger throttle body elbow
8) Larger turbo outlet elbow (I plan on using the 14b)
9) External engine oil cooler
11) Prothane engine mounts
12) When time comes, ACT clutch and alum light flywheel
13) Wideband O2

Does this sound like a more reasonable plan?

Still gotta open up that exhaust or it will be a restriction pretty quickly as I understand. My mostly stock laser felt improvements from a catless 3 inch turbo-back.

ditch the turbo outlet elbow, save up for a fmic.
Ditch the aluminum flywheel, get a ACT chromoly one
Make sure you get a walbro 255 HP (high pressure)
Also find a 7cm exhuast side for your 14b.
I got away with a narrow-band for a long time. Just gotta be careful.
Finally, you can get away with 450's, just up your fuel pressure to 47psi. Then they flow like 550's. Plenty of fuel for a 20psi 14b.
