Hi guys so while doing a cable management under the driver side I found something unusual there is a wire that goes from the starter switch (MB398020) the black and yellow cable is bridged with this plug

And is connected to the red and black from the plug if a take out that cable car will get power but won't crank
Basically I want to know the reazon of doing this? Maybe there is an inline switch or relay burned and the previous owner did this or what?

Can't see the pic clearly but connecting the black-yellow to the red-black bypasses the starter relay so the starter solenoid will always get power when key is turned to Start. When key is turned to Start, the starter relay is normally closed (provides power to solenoid) but opens (no power to solenoid) if the clutch pedal is not pressed or stock theft alarm goes off.

So someone probably got fed up with the starter relay opening senerios and just bypassed it. Some claim starting in neutral with the clutch engaged reduces crank walk possibility so this would allow it. Or maybe he got tired of a faulty alarm preventing starting, or didn't want to have to trace down a broken/shorted harness wire preventing starting, or got tired of buying starter relays that keep failing for some unknown reason, or who knows.

I did the same thing (except I jumpered the relay) so I would have the option of running my car up my driveway into the garage on the starter when it won't start! ROFL
